    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

The pleasure of it is only enhanced by the  squeal of the lavender stallion, who is skidding to a stop as Ivar bites down. The kelpie does not pause to savor it as he might have - there will be time for that later.

Having turned to face his opponent, it is only too easy to see the other stallion lower his head in preparation for a buck. Awareness is a single component of action, and Ivar knows that he is in most likely in striking range of the other stallion; he needs to react. Fortunately for the wounded kelpie, he does not have to move far.

The two stallions had been parallel when Klaudius pulls to a stop just past Ivar’s rear. Ivar’s teeth had found the flesh of the purple man’s flank, so pivoting has put his head directly in range of flying hind hooves.

    His reaction is instinctual: Drop

He treats the air the way he would have the water, and it works in his favor. Ivar simply drops his weight to the right, ducking beneath the other stallion’s hooves. One scrapes against the thick crest of his neck, and while there is a burning of hair removed by friction, there is no major contact. It stings - damn does it sting - but Ivar holds in the wicked hiss that threatens to emerge from between his clenched teeth.

Now would be the time - the perfect time - to reach up and hamstring the older stallion.

    But he does not.

The battle is over, their turns expended.

Instead he stabilizes himself (as well as he can on an aching leg), and prepares for the journey home.
