    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    Down Bythe Sea

Nerine had proved to be truly beautiful.

Ravenwing had found herself wandering the lands of her new band, no herd, no kingdom, that was truly hard to get used to, she mused. She'd never once heard of a gathering of horses being called a kingdom, but to each their own, she supposed. The black mare found she very much liked the lands. The trees were a beautiful mix of evergreens and color-changing trees, the ground littered with orange and green leaves atop lush grass.

The air constantly smelled of the ocean, which she found she liked very much. It was oddly salty, and having tasted the ocean-water herself she knew it was very much so. There was a slight scent of fish, which some might think to stink, but having lived her whole life in a rather desolate area, she found the many scents truly wonderful.

She had never tasted grass such as what grew in Nerine. The grass she was used to was sparse, growing between rocks, and barely a mouthful. But the grass here was lush, and thick, and she knew she'd never be hungry so long as she stayed here. There were fruits growing in the trees, and she enjoyed rearing up to pluck them carefully between her teeth. The juice of the crops were fantastic, both filling her stomach and damping her thirst at the same time. She knew, if she stayed here, the thinness of her form would fill out, her ribs no longer so visible.

Now, she was simply exploring. She was looking to see if there were any more groves of fruit trees, or pools of sea-water. It was odd, how little fresh-water there was, but there seemed to be enough. Even if one puddle drained, she was sure to find another, without having to dig or struggle. It was paradise, to the young black mare.

Suddenly, the wind shifted, bringing to her the scent of a fellow horse. Feeling curious, she trotted in the direction of the scent, finding a beautiful glade. A white horse -she couldn't tell if it was a filly or colt, mare or stallion- grazing peacefully in the middle of it.

Not wanting to startle him, she nickered softly to alert him to her presence. Her ears were pricked forward in interest and curiosity, and there was a kind set to her face. She didn't mean any harm, only to make his acquantance. Perhaps she could even make a friend? "Hello, may I join you?"
