    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    Enniska

Were we just kids, just starting out?

The world is slowly becoming alive again. The further the three mares travel to Wound's home, the less snow there is. Enniska can see flowers starting to bloom, she notices the small critters of the world are out and busy going about their days earlier than usual. She has also shed most of her thick winter coat, much to her relief. Enniska has never been one to fret over her appearance, but she much prefers her summer coat much more than the dull version she grows in winter. Her summer coat reminds her of the shiny metals she sometimes sees at the bottom of streams and rivers, winking and shining as the sun's rays catch them. The horn on her head however, shines brightly all year, something to always remind her of her old home.

The journey to Tephra takes longer than is probably would have, due to Wound's limp, but Enniska is surprised to find that she does not mind in the least; she is too fascinated with the world around her to care for hurrying to a destination. When they do at last reach the entrance to the land, Enniska is lost for words. Her bright blue eyes scan over equally blue waters, shock and amazement shining within them. Enniska has never in her life seen so much water in one place. A sandy path leads into the distance, and into Tephra, presumably, but on this sandy road there are smaller pools of water, containing fish in colours Enniska has never seen a fish in. Wound speaks of tides and ocean water, and offers the two mares a warm and reassuring smile. Enniska looks at the water again, before blurting out "What is an ocean water? This is the biggest lake I have ever seen in my life!". Enniska wonders how much rain it takes to fill the lake, and how many horses it takes to drink up all the water; has there ever been a drought here? The smell in the air is also extremely unfamiliar to the dark mare. It is sharp, but slightly sweet, and almost...sticky. She glances at Saedís, wondering if she shares the same thoughts, has she ever seen such a big and strange lake?

Wound leads them onwards, the sand is soft and caves in on itself as they make their way across what Enniska can only think of a bridge, but one that comes and goes according to Wound's description. It is not long before the sand turns to pebbles, and then to dirt close to the treeline. True to Wound's words, there is not a speck of snow in sight, and the air is pleasantly warm. Wound speaks of the volcano in the distance, and Enniska turns her attention to the looming mountain. Despite Wound's reassuring words, the volcano's presence makes Enniska feel uneasy; she has heard of what volcanoes can do. Their hot waters are supposed to be thick, and it consumes everything in it's path. "What would you do? If it were to erupt?" Enniska asks her question with curiosity shining in her eyes.

They are here, they have made it to Tephra, Wound's home, and perhaps Enniska's too. She sneaks a glance in Saedís' direction. Enniska wonders if the young mare wants to stay here too, and in Enniska's mind she can picture the ghostly mare travelling through the dark forest, and across the sand bridge. Yes, Enniska thinks Saedís would fit in wonderfully here, and hopefully she will too.
