Tephra was new and different that the island that they’d come from. It was hot and the ground was crunchy with every step. Truthfully, Maiven felt very little fondness towards her new home. It was strange and the faces that surrounded her were unfamiliar. Walking beside the river, she tried her hardest to push the events that had delivered them into Tephra out of her mind. Durotan promised her that life would be different here. That they would be safe. She wanted to believe him because she had seen a change taking place. A love brewed between her papa and the former queen. It was strange to her. For so long it had only been just them, and now it wasn’t.
The twins, the former prince and princess, had also joined them on their trek to the mainland. Though they’d been just as apprehensive as she had been, they carried themselves differently than Maiven. It was hard for the older filly to strike up conversation with them. Their upbringing had been so vastly different than hers.
Exhaling, Maiven walked along the river near the spot she and their little group had claimed for themselves. Once again, she was alone and in search of companionship. She knew it was not her father’s fault. They had no other choice. Durotan could not support Brennen’s claim – not with his growing affection towards Krone. Maiven loved him and wished for his happiness above all else. She just wanted to be a part of it.
