    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

A small, and careful smile tugs at the corners of her lips as Lucrezia too repeats the word. Her dark eyes search the golden woman’s gaze, dropping her head in a small nod. Together they would face whatever there was to come, may it be good, or bad. Their words and presence offer Amorette a sparkle of hope, and faith that the future might not be as dark as she had thought it to be.

Never the ebony and golden woman would have imagined that she would be the one showing two former monarchs – also equines she cares a lot about – around. It excites her, as Amore is always happy to share her love for Tephra with whoever is willing to listen. That her companions care for the land as much as she does, only makes the event better.

She meets Lucrezia’s gaze with a smile, and a nod, and Magnus soon follows. “Tephra never bores me, even after these years it’s still a feast for the eyes,” she replies with a smile. A smile that grows wider when she notes the smile exchanged between the two former monarchs. When he asks Lucrezia where she wants to go, Amorette’s attention focusses on the peacock mare too. Her head slightly tilts, and her dark ebony ears point forwards, her curiosity and enthusiasm showing.

There is a place she wants to suggest. The place that Lucrezia had first introduced her to, and one Amore has visited very often since. But it’s Lucrezia’s question to answer, and Amorette does not have the heart to take the choice away.

Here it comes with no warning; capsize, i'm first in the water
She is pleased to hear that Magnus also wishes to join in the adventure. While she might be familiar with the layout of Tephra already, there was nothing more than anything she wanted than to familiarize herself with the volcanic terrain again. It also brought her more joy than ever to by doing it with two individuals she has considered to be very good friends.

It was these moments Lucrezia loved most. The memories formed with the ones she loved and cared for filled her with happiness. And it was these moments she counted on to carry her forward when she felt failure and despair.

Lucrezia cannot agree more with Amorette’s words back in reply. Tephra would always be a special place to come to no matter how long you called it home. There would always be wonder. There would always be those emotions she felt when she first came here. She even felt it when she had returned, the hollowed void within her filling up once again.

    Tephra is her sanctuary.

When the black and golden mare and buckskin stallion look to her for the answer, her lips widen into a soft smile. “Oh, don’t you both leave it up to me,” she says with a light laugh, taking steps towards the direction both Amorette and Magnus have gone. “It’s obvious we all want to go to the volcano!”

Lucrezia takes a couple strides forward from where Magnus and Amorette are and turns around. “Let’s go!” Her words are filled with enthusiasm.

    howling ghosts, they reappear
in mountains that are stacked with fear

This moment brings Magnus back to the first time he saw Tephra.

He had been exhausted, muscles strained from the trek up and down the mountain. It had been a long few days—too many hours spent awake and searching, too much fear stretching him thin, the chaos of the land sending him and those around him in a tailspin. He has experienced much during his life but there are few moments that can stand amongst the days after the Reckoning in regards to stress.

But then, the faeries had heard Offspring’s and his pleas and granted them their request.

And they had taken the long journey down the mountain, ushering their friends and families into this new haven. In that moment, that split few seconds, he had been nearly cleaved in half. Part of him had been exhausted to a point that he had never experienced before. Part of him had been ravaged with grief and the loss of everything that he loved. But still, there had been part of him joyous in possibility.

Tephra had been delicately blanketed with fog. She had smelled of sulfur. The volcano watching over it all had towered with possibility. And yet—and yet—she had been theirs. She had been a place for them to stand watch over their loved ones, to protect and begin to build their lives again.

That same love pierces his heart once again and his golden eyes soften as he looks at them both. At Lucrezia’s prompting, he laughs, the sound warm in his mouth, and he breaks away from them both into a leggy trot, shouting over his shoulder. “Race you guys there!” With a devilish twinkle in his eye and a youthful snort he pushes off the soft loam and breaks into a gallop, laughing into the wind and relishing this moment where he can relinquish his demons and simply enjoy the company of those he loves.

    but you're a king and I'm a lionheart
