    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    It was all his fault

He was single handed responsible for the death of Tahti, his simple mistake of a wild bear, and his sister keeper caused the life of there new found friend. If we could have just gone to see the cubs he thinks to himself, the image of the whole attack continues to run through his mind for the past couple days. Warlight and Clayton had been hiding from the other kingdom members, fearing for the retaliation, but Clayton would not let Warlight go down for it, it was not her mistake.

The tovero stallion he had never met before, he came and healed both Warlight and Clayton, there bloody marks gone before there eyes, but the lack of fur remained. A constant reminder of the attack, of his stupid mistake, the stallion was just the savior they needed in the moment, but why couldn't he have came moments earlier? Why couldn't he have saved Tahti's life...

You're mom is going to banish me from Hyaline his voice was shaky, his gaze sought out Warlight's, her mothers were the queens! Once they heard about there stupid stunt, how they risked the safety of the kingdom, and murdered another, they would surely turn Clayton away. A terrible influence for there daughter, one he can not live without, he could not leave her....even if they banished him.

How long could they hide away? When would enough be enough? Would they have to go and find a new kingdom? What was Warlight's thoughts? Was she just as afraid and scared from the situation as he was? What are we going to do Will? He prods, and attempt to get into her mind, to find out how she was feeling, what she was thinking.

Warlight didn't know what to think, she had just kept walking.

Her insides were shaky, her head was hammering and Clayton's heavy sighs weren't helping. She could tell he was thinking it all over, trying to work out how the attack could have been prevented, but she wasn't sure there was blame to be put anywhere. And that's what terrified her.

"It was a stupid mistake," Warlight replies with more force than sympathy, forgetting that Clayton may be putting that mistake on his own young shoulders. But something stops her from disagreeing with him entirely, and instead, she bites her tongue. She can't quite name the feeling keeping her from running home but she knew Velk would let their family know that she was fine, and that was good enough for now.

Eventually, the two yearlings reach a grassy meadow and her trauma makes way for her hunger. Angrily the bay-splashed girl tears into the summer grasses, but only a few of the young blades make it into her stomach.

"We'll stay here," she finally says, after actually chewing a bite or two and looking around with an appraising glance. The meadow was surrounded by a tangle of young fuchsia trees which would shield them from any searchers in the sky. "At least for tonight then we can decide what to do in the morning."

She couldn't think past that, not yet. Maybe once the glaring daylight was gone she could think.

we are stars wrapped in skin

It's a good thing nobody had thought to bury her, or leave her under a heavy rock. Who knew if she'd ever get out of that, and die of starvation over and over again?

Her world has been black for an indefinite amount of time; when she comes to and sees the mountain peak, and the bright spring sky, at least she knows it hasn't been a season.

The place no longer smells of bear, or blood, so she assumes the mother and her cubs would have left the scene never to return. It takes a few moments for the young black filly, to stand however. Her legs are like little twigs, and she has trouble keeping them upright long enough - but eventually, she is able to take a few steps without falling over, and she estimates the sun.

It's already midday, she thinks. She begins to wonder where Clay and Will went, though. She doubts they will have gone to Nerine, but one can never know until they ask. Stepping slowly through the mountainous area, she sniffs around to look for them. There is no fresh scent trail - not even one going to the valley of the lake and wisteria trees. Are they still up here then? Had it not taken so long to recover then?

With no concept of time, she wanders the mountainsides. She really needs to find that girl. If not her, then maybe Panthera, who could warn Kagerus. Though she doesn't actually want the mare to constantly have to dream-fill her belly, she has little options but that, or go to the fairies. Will could take her there, but, she'll have to find her first.

    do you ever wonder...
    ...do you ever dream?

The two-toned lad could not stop thinking about those three babies. Something inside nagged him about the little charcoal filly. He was mad at himself for not even trying to help her. Then again, he did not know he possessed the ability to help the other two. His gift was foreign to him. He knew of the magic of Beqanna - of wings, antlers and horns, of trait mimicry and, full animal shapeshifters, of Kagerus' dreamworld and of magic most only dream about. Never did he know he was blessed with such magic.

The realization that he possessed the ability to heal another brought to light that he could do so much good in this world. He began to feel less conflicted in the days that followed. He began to feel closer to Hyaline and the graces of sanctuary that his mother established. Velk felt as though he could pursue this as his purpose. He could not recall Solace ever mentioning an official healer on the roster; however, he would eagerly volunteer to be the first. With a gentle sigh, Velk chose to follow-up on the whereabouts of the two bay foals. Warlight is his half-sister and, although they did not spend their days as siblings, he had grown fond of her. And, he needs to know that they are okay. He needs to validate that his gift was not some trick of the mind.

Muscled quarters engage to push ebony-and-ivory lad into a purposeful march. His pace is steady and determined though neither rushed nor leisurely. Sky blue gaze scans the slopes for the pair of mahogany youth though, his widened nostrils soon pick up their delicate perfumes, which are heavily laced with fear and panic. As he draws near, Velk offers a gentle nicker to reassure them that he comes with friendly intentions. He calls out as well, his tone as gentle as his whicker. "Warlight, it is just me - your older brother. I just want to make sure you are all right." When Velk emerges into the clearing, he catches sight of a pair of chocolate brown backs amongst the thinning array of grasses. Ears prick atop poll and maturing stag draws to a halt nearby. He offers a reassuring smile to both Warlight and, her familiar friend, as he waits for them to receive him.

    Every Story Has Two Sides

He was in shock, but he had to be strong for Warlight, she was always the strong one. It was a stupid mistake Her gentle words echoed through his ears, she was right they did not go with the intention of murdering there friend.....if he had not been so stupid and mistook the actual bear for his sister....

He nods his head in response and the two young horses trailed though the kingdom, an attempt to remain hidden from everyone else. It took a while but they finally descended from the mountains, his belly tickled by the grass below We'll stay here. She says, grabbing a mouthful of grass, he scanned the horizon, it would do. At least for tonight, then we can decide what to do in the morning. He nods his head once again Ok, that sounds like a plan he forces a smile on his maw as he looks to Will.

The picture of the black filly is stuck on replay in his head, his body aches that there mistake caused her death. He heard the approach of another, wishful thinking that it would be Tahti....but it was not. The blue draped stallion, Velk, appeared with a genuine greeting. He reached out to Warlight, the two were siblings after all, noting he just wanted to make sure she was alright. Hello Velk he was the first to greet the stallion, the one who healed Clayton and Warlights scars....who knew what there outcome would have been without the magical healing powers that he held.
