    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

She was ready to let go of all she had lived for.  All she had ever wanted was to see their world flourish.  She had tried.  Committing herself to renewing Taiga's forests and spreading the kingdoms reminders all across the lands.  It was a task given to her by the fairies and one she executed with great pride.  For a short while she had purpose.  After her son had been conceived and the fairies had damned him for her own transgressions, she had hid herself from all she knew.  Deep in the redwood forests she had lived her days in solitude, waiting for her sons arrival.  Their sons arrival.  Leaving Tephra was something she deemed necessary.  Levi had not wished for children and she would not burden him with one.  Content on living in secret she had not sought him out, but perhaps visiting their first meeting place had been her undoing.  Their the child had come swiftly and her life was nearly taken by birthing him.  Ironic how -once again- her life is nearly given for his...

Maybe if she hadn't rushed to the scene, she would have taken precautions.  She may have noticed the evil lingering about. But, all she wanted was to save her father.  He did not deserve what lies had been whispered into the ears of the masses.  How they were all too eager to kill someone they did not even know all because it was commanded of them.  Even if she had known her fate that day, she would have attempted to defend him.  But, her failure is her near demise as all consciousness fades quickly from her body.  She recalls gasping her sons name into the sickness of the land but everything else is a blur.

    .

Her body lays there, motionless, for nearly three days.  Anyone would have thought her lost to this world if they had passed her by.  A shallow rise and fall of her chest cavity was the only indicator that she still clung onto life.  What little thread there was would soon fade.  Her organs beginning to shut down from lack of all nutrients would be the most humane way for her to go.  Whatever disease they had released was slowly settling in her lungs, inflammation causing shortness of breath.  It forced a cough to awaken her.  Beqanna was not ready to let her go.  She was a fighter and now more than ever they needed all they could get.

Panic set in and she thrashed her ivory limbs against the sickly earth.  A deep inhale followed, and though drawn out, she felt little relief.  Seating herself up her sienna eyes viewed the immediate area.  Her vision was skewed and with a few rapid blinks moisture returned to her eyes.  Slowly she realized the turned soil around her was of a struggle and pain radiated throughout her body.  Muscles sore from unuse were stiff but with the wounds across her body she figures she may have got trampled on in her attempt to rescue her father... Father! Franick, her eyes flicker about to see if anything still here would clue her in on his possible survival.  Her head swivels to see what lie behind her and her heart sinks as she sees an unidentifiable mass.

Though weak, she pushes herself to stand.  She needed to know and when she turns, all she sees is the bright chestnut of his coat and dusty white points, to know that he has perished in the most heinous on ways.  Dehydration is no match for the tears a daughter sheds when they find their loved one in such a state.  Her ivory snipped muzzle lowers to his remains and her body collapses beside them once again...
