    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

Can you See the Truth Behind a Curtain of Lies? [Fairies]
    #1

The tawny foal had hidden that day at the lake upon seeing so many unfamiliar faces.  Wide eyes watched as the children played and carried on.  She only wished she was so bold as to ask one of them to play with her.  But she doesn't get the chance when there is a quaking of earth beneath her.  Frightened she begins to run through the hills.  The useless wings at her sides outstretched in some hopeless attempt to find their purpose.

Each rise and fall of her hooves brought her farther from her home.  She squealed in terror as rocks began to slide down the mountains above and threatened to crush her.  With a giant leap she evaded one and with another leap she is perched on the side of the biggest mountain she has ever seen.

Her silver eyes turn upwards but the clouds crowd the view of the very tip of the formation.  As her attention is returned to the earth, she finds the lands have stilled once again.  With an exhausted huff of breath, she exhales deeply. "Pfew... That was close," her mousy voice is relieved.

She hardly realizes she is alone and lost.  Never one to fear solitude, she turns to a rocky path just around a boulder.  With another leap she glides(wings splayed) and lands onto the path with a thud.  Her nose wrinkles in wonder at how she had drifted so smoothly along the air but she is distracted by a sharp bleat coming from above her.

Silver eyes upturn once more to find curious shaggy creatures with horns jumping from rock to rock.  A few younger ones stop to stare at her and with a twisted leap they descend from the mountain side.  Along the way they butt heads and rear at each other, causing her to giggle at their playful antics.

They slow to a stop just up the path to look at her with wondering eyes.  They seem unthreatened by her and approach playfully, sniffing her and nipping at her feathered wings.  She lowers her head to view them closer.  Their eyes turn towards her small budding of horns, lowering their own heads as if o challenge her.  She giggles and butts one of the white goats gently with her head.  They in turn press their skulls to hers.

Together they play until a loud bleat comes from up the mountain side and the goat kids scatter.  Grown ups always ruined the fun.  Alone, once again, she decides to rest atop a flat ledge.  Curling into a small tawny mass, she yawns.  Her sleepy eyes soon closing.

They watch. They watch the child wander away from its family and onto the mountain, and vaguely they disapprove but she seems safe enough. An attempt to shoo her home certainly doesn’t work; she merely climbs higher up the mountain and perches in the heights, but she is still alone and that just won’t do.

So they send the mountain goats, the little curious ones as well as the big ones. Of course the big ones tend to be shyer – not shy exactly because, well, goats simply aren’t shy in the classic sense of the world. But they’re also not big winged horse stranger fans, even little ones, so they hang back. But the kids? Kids are brave, and fun, and maybe of some of the soft-hearted fairies wanted to give the girl friends and the grumpier ones turn a blind eye, whose going to judge them? It’s just some silent hidden fae, some goats, and a fily on this mountain.

They play for a while, and one of the fairies sees how well she fits with them. Watching, always watching. But eventually it begins to grow darker, and the big goats call the kids home. The girl lays down to sleep and the curious fairy can’t help herself – she changes her. Her mane and tail, shorter. Her coat, coarser; the beginnings of a baby beard. It giggles to itself, this minor fae, but then it’s caught! The other fae shoo it away, but they don’t bother to undo the mischief.

They just send her home – just like that.
