    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

    "But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    I could really use a wish right now, Skellig

    can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars,
    I could really use a wish right now;

    She was not even a year old, and she has already seen so much. Her mother had made sure that even though she was to be kept safe, that she was not entirely sheltered. Icicle Isle and Island Resort were both beautiful in their own ways, as she had discovered, but she thinks she will always feel partial to her volcanic birthplace. The sight of the glowing mountain had been a relief after she had returned from her accidental adventure to the playground — an incident she probably could have gotten away with, if it weren’t for the fever and slight cough she had developed. Her mother had noticed instantly, of course, and even though Evenstar had already felt guilty for getting lost from Tephra, the ache in her mother’s voice when she realized she was sick had made it all the worse.

    And so she remained within the borders, cautious to not even linger near the forests of Taiga and Sylva, not wanting to cause either of her parents anymore grief. The plague had already taken root, however, and even though it wasn’t quite as bad as what her mother suffered from, it was evident that she wasn’t her usual vibrant self. Her dark brown eyes had a glossiness to them from the heat of the fever, and sometimes her small body was wracked by a dry cough.

    Even still, she was content to wander around Tephra, picking her away across the lava fields, or exploring the coast. Winter in Tephra was still decidedly warm, leaving her jade-colored coat slick and glittering beneath the bright sun, as she stood upon a grassy knoll, trying to decide what she would today – and maybe looking to see if Negan was still around. But as her eyes scan across the wide expanse, it’s her father that she spots. She glances around, noticing that her mother didn’t seem to be nearby – which makes her heart clench, because even though she was young, she was not completely ignorant to the fact that her mother could be absent at odd times, sometimes returning with strange scents clinging to her skin.

    But she is already moving forward, her steps light and lively as she closes the gap between her and Skellig. Her small body bumps purposely into the front of him, reaching up to press her muzzle against his shoulder as she says softly, ”Hi daddy! What are you doing?” Without hesitation she curls into his chest, and she’s not sure if he will be able to feel the way her little body is hotter than it should be, peering up at him with large, doe-like eyes.

    I'm praying that this stairway leads somewhere like Heaven's door,
    and when you get there don't look down
