    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

She had blinked her little angel eyes up at her daddy, and her mommy and pleaded with them to let her explore for the day. She knew most of Tephra by heart and could find her way back to their little home within the territory from any part of it. It was with this argument and the fact that she was a yearling and not some tiny baby that put a small smile on her mom’s face. A soft nudge towards her daddy and she knew she had won, her lips lingering and pressing a ton of kisses to their faces before she turned to scamper off.

She is giddy as she escapes her watchful parent’s eyes and kicks her heels up once she is out of view. She crosses the river and heads deeper in towards the mountain with its giant vat of lava. She doesn’t wander too close but she can feel the increase of temperature and humidity as she wanders closer. It was fascinating to her the way that nature worked and after spending some time around that she wanders away, her wings tight against her body.

There’s a couple of natural bridges that have formed over the lava here and there, nature going on despite the destruction. She crosses one of them and finds herself close to the spring in the middle. She smiles and slides in, the water warm against her skin but she stops with a small sigh when it reaches her belly. She is quiet and happy and content for the moment to be wandering alone, but she wouldn’t mind finding someone else to talk to.
