It had hurt when her tattoos had been removed. Not too much physically, beyond a little burning, but mentally. It’d surprised her, how much it had hurt. But her tattoos were a part of her.
She had fought to gain those tattoos as a child - badgered her mother and the queen for them until they had finally deemed her old enough to take the vow. She had been so proud then, so eager. She had loved the flickering silver lightning, and the traditional vine and flower.
To have them ripped away is … difficult, to say the least. She had earned those tattoos. And she wants them back.
She is still mulling over the situation when Scorch’s voice rings out through the trees, calling everyone to a meeting. She answers quickly, though with frustration and resentment in her heart.
The feelings are quickly banished however at the sight of Scorch. The queen, the almighty, bullheaded queen … is bald.
Lyris laughs allowed - a loud guffaw that she does not attempt to hide. Scorch looks like the distant cousin of a naked mole rat. Mighty indeed.
But Scorch’s mention of their tattoos sobers her up quickly. Scorch’s tattoos had no doubt been a part of Scorch as much as Lyris’ had, perhaps even more so. It’s not right to laugh at her pain, no matter how silly she may look.
It is comforting however to know that the tattoos will be returning, though her anger still burns at the fact that they were removed to begin with. Has she not proved herself enough?
But she quiets herself, remaining silent until Scorch speaks of naming their new ‘spirit’ ward, and her sisters offer their own ideas. “Seems a little presumptuous to name her, don’tcha think? She's not exactly well, like us. Maybe we should be asking her if she has a name. And if she even wants one from us.” She has a healthy respect of spirits and faeries - she’s heard the stories of what they can do. Caution would seem like the safest path when dealing with this jaguar spirit, especially considering it’s so new.
Her eyes widen when Scorch speaks of the Falls terms for an alliance. She almost laughs again, but she holds it in. They want a sister to live there? The little kingdom is definitely overestimating its importance. Sure, healing waters are useful, but the kingdom is sporting a positively tiny army. They would be of little use in a fight (with the one exception - Tyrna had certainly given her a run for her money during their mock). She nods agreement when Nayl and Rhy voice their opinions (and ignores the nervous chestnut) - an alliance with the Falls would serve little at this point.
Finally, the cantankerous Lagertha speaks up and Lyris is once again surprised. She must merit some small amount of worth in the grey general’s eyes for her to be the first suggest for a pair of wings. “Thank you.” She takes a step forward to nod at the grey mare. “I’ll take the wings for now, however, I think if another sister proves worthy of the airforce they should be given to her. My own ability can allow me to fly, though I am not well practiced at it yet. It takes very precise control.” And at the moment, lots of concentration - something she might not have the luxury for in a fight. She needs to practice until it becomes as easy as breathing.
