    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    there is but one rule
    hunt or be hunted
He has learned for years now to be patient. Patient enough to wait to take the leadership of Sylva. Patient enough to wait to take the crown. But with this, he could not be patient enough.

She was his temptation. With every fiber in his being, he holds himself back from her. He wants to pull @[Valdis] close. He wants to hold her like he did all those moments that feel like a lifetime ago. He wants to breath her scent in. He wants to drown himself into her again, and again.

    But he doesn’t.

    He cannot.

Because if he did, he knows this moment will be over. Then when would he ever see her again? Maybe this was their final moment together. Their chapter ending. Sinner doesn’t want to think about that. He doesn’t want it to end, so his only choice is to hold onto it as long as he can.

“Perhaps,” she says after a few quiet moments. That one single word feels different though. The hellhound knows as much as he tries to keep himself away, she is doing the same. They are connected in ways that should not happen, but they had come together, and their souls interlocked. He can feel the turmoil in her—the same turmoil he feels right now—no matter how much she tries to shield it. To hold it all back was destroying them both.

The walls they built to keep each other at bay could never happen. They were not strong enough when they were meant to build walls together. But Sinner is selfish. He has sworn to never let himself fall so far away. To never be like his father—how could he ever give up so much for something like love? It wasn’t until now that he understood why. With his mother, for his father, it had been everything.

    With Valdis, was it everything?

With her, would he have everything he ever wanted?

He shakes his head, glancing his glowing gaze away from her for a few moments. It isn’t until she speaks again that his eyes meet hers once more. She speaks about Mary. It had always been a problem of theirs. He liked Mary in many ways. Their relationship together had been strong from the beginning, but it was never anything like theirs. Mary was never anything like Valdis.

“We are not together anymore,” he simply says. What else could he say? The hellhound might have shared the throne with the queen, but their connection was no longer anything important now that Sylva was loss. Perhaps they could have built something more together. Perhaps another time in his life he will. But when Sylva was no longer his, it was simple to put it all behind him.

    Except for her.

    Valdis.

He thought of her every day since then.

“He is here?” He asks suddenly surprised. Sinner would have thought she would have kept their son away from him. “Where is he?” He asks glancing behind her, looking at possible places she might hide the young hellhound. A small amount of eagerness filled him. He would actually get to meet his son!
