    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

The world is smaller than you think; wolfbane/aten

ALL THE DOUBT YOU'RE STANDING IN BETWEEN

Part one creature and the next, Wolfbane is gifted with so many talents he never thought possible until now. Jakub is teaching him things while they talk; schooling Wolfbane on how to give in to his power and how to keep it from spiraling out of control. The Minotaur-horse seems on edge a little bit, just by the look on his black face and the way he keeps one ear dialed to the woods around them. But as Wolfbane steadies his focus and concentrates, he can sense a change in the smallest cells of his body.

Unseen parts of him are shifting inside his skin. The sensory organs in his nose and on his tongue change to something canine and feral, primal. His brain adjusts itself and color drains from Wolfbane’s vision, but when he inhales Jakub’s scent the bouquet of a few strong emotions is worth seeing in black and white.

He can sense the dark stallion’s uneasiness and taste the palatable anger that a normal equine might’ve never noticed. It heightens when Jakub mentions Aten, and Wolfbane smirks in an easy, fluid motion thinking about his reply.

“Aten is our champion. Our protector and the guardian of these woods, as he’s always been.” The white-winged pegasus sighed through his teeth. “And everyone is welcome here… everyone who respects our borders.”

Bane’s hazel-green eyes slid from the wide, red trees and settled on Jakub. Since arriving he’d done his best to hold back but now, seeing as Jakub was more than eager to act like a guard in a place he had no business acting like a guard in, Wolfbane decided to let loose a little bit.

“Since you’ve already said you’re not here on official Tephra business,” The manipulator spoke softly, taking a gentle step forward. The shadows around him lengthened and his legs grew, his shoulders widened and his flesh filled out. Now he could see Jakub eye to eye; they were a pair of behemoth titans, one winged and one with horns. “I think it’s fair of me to ask that you leave.”

In one swipe, Wolfbane’s gaze took the black beast in. He measured the other horse and found himself unimpressed.

“For Aten’s sake I won’t ban you from coming back. But maybe next time,” Bane muttered, “you wait for an invitation.”
