    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

There she is, perfection molded and plopped in the heart of the forest surrounded by fresh evergreen and wild flowers. He sees her, as he lurks from the gentle branches of an oak tree attempting to soak in whatever final sun rays the evening has to offer. He can feel it, it’s getting colder.

She takes a couple steps forward, nuzzling at the ground for stray blades of grass. Her muscle tone had defined since she had left the shadows, and her coat had finally began recovering from malnourishment. Though she is completely not his type, he can appreciate when someone had done a good job. And he? He had done an excellent job shaping Smother for this very moment.

The moment where she takes control, where she homes in on her natural ability to influence, where his voice becomes loud. No longer banned to blackness in embarrassment but rebirthed as powerful.

Turkish descends from his vantage point, wrapping his 11ft body around the tree and inching down with grace. By the time he reaches the ground, the sun begins to fall beneath the blanket of the treeline, only an aggressive red orange glow remaining.

She lifts her head as Turkish makes his way over roots and fallen leaves. The pressure caused by his distance eases, her lungs finally feel able to expand and her heart doesn’t feel as constricted. This undeniable pressure they both feel as their invisible chain grows too long, the reason they have been tied together despite all the conflict.

He feels it, and she feels it too. Their body begins to shut down, the air around them suddenly suffocating tight. And the further he or she goes, the more intense the pressure follows. Fifty feet apart hardly feels like anything anymore, but at one hundred feet in distance she feels the agonizing threat of suffocating.

They appear silent to everyone else, but internally they are communicating. His body touches her leg and she knows he is going to rise up her shoulder and link around her neck like an oversized necklace. She moves slightly to the left and he knows she is getting stiff in her right shoulder. Her heartbeat fluctuates and he knows she is uncomfortable, most likely because of a social setting. He leaves her company, she knows he is going for more intel—more research.

A few steps, some telepathy communication, they were lost in their own exchange of thoughts of what to do and where to go from here. But to the outside world, they were an oddly paired circus act surrounded by only the soft whisper of birds chirping in the distance.

And then, a hiss left the mouth of Turkish, a warning.

    Someone had found them.
