    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

One for All [open, recruiting for I²]

"You should do some recruiting" Leilan's words rang loudly in Jesper's mind. His roan brother is correct: Icicle Isle needed more numbers. So, despite the bitter cold, he knows he must travel to the mainland. The black stallion makes his way to the Isle's shore before he plunges into the arctic water. For the first swim since his duel with Sabrina, his strokes are strong and, all four limbs move with ease. Keeping his head above the water's surface, aquamarine gaze focuses on Nerine's shore until his hooves strike the rocky floor. The sleek black stallion pulls himself ashore and, onto all four legs. Jesper takes a moment to shake though, the behavior is mostly out of habit. The air temperature quickly freezes any liquid and so, very few droplets actually leave his pelt.

Once back on solid land, Jesper collects his thoughts. He has always liked the notion of tracking down other canine-shifters; of offering them a home on the Isle and, creating one big pack of dogs. Ultimately, he hopes to bump into Merida again. Though, Jesper feels confident that the Forest is the best place to start looking for any canine-shifter. It may be where he first encountered her but, it is also where he first called home in Beqanna. Therefore, it would always be his favorite haunt.

Alas, if he had any hope of finding other pack members, Jesper would have to look the part. He shifts into his canine form and, pushes forward into a light canter. The silver and gray todd navigates southward across Nerine, Taiga and, along the borders of Loess. Before long, Jesper enters the shadows of the Forest. He slows down to a walk before coming to a complete stop. He takes a moment to filter through the fragrances of the woods in order to locate the scents mingled amongst the pine and damp leaves. He finds his sense of smell less than acute as he pants from the jaunt to get here. Within several moments, Jesper has caught his breath and, now, can focus. He pads forward silently and, lowers his nose to the Forest floor. He inspects the trunks of trees, the moss and, the bed of leaves thoroughly.

While the male fox is not looking for any one in particular, at the moment, he anticipates finding another dog via the scents they have left behind: their urine on the trees and, their buried scat. If a non-canine approaches him, he would still be his usual diplomatic self. If they seemed an appropriate fit, he would extend an invitation to him or, her, just the same.

There are times that he misses his brothers.

Despite being so solemn and serious, he misses Tarian's decisiveness. His oldest brother had a way of making up his mind and following through that he has always admired. Kildare, as the youngest son, has tried to emulate his sire, his brothers Tarian and Liam, has tried to figure out where it was he fit in. Tarian was the groomed heir, the eventual successor to their Legacy lineage. Liam, as the second son, was intended to be whatever Tarian and his family needed - advisor, general, soldier. But Liam, like Tarian in his ability to make up his mind, knew that he wanted no part of that.

    He wanted open skies.

While his father and family sorted out their places and differences, what it was they wanted, it gave Kildare time to reflect and make decisions of his own. The young stallion might have spent too much time with his Glam and her stories about the world outside Beyond could be responsible for the reason he stands here now. All Kildare knew that as he grew older, he would never be able to fit into the tight mold that his father had cast for his sons. He would never be a Guardian or 'typical' Legacy. Abbandon's dark blood might have tainted it, casting shadows where before there had only been light. The black stallion has spent his youth growing up with these doubts lurking in his veins and he wonders if the words his mother, Kalina,  had whispered into ears as a youth painted his blood with darkness.

If it did, better to find that out here than failing his father. Let Tarian carry all their hopes and aspirations into the future. Let him fade into the obscurity of it and make his way here.

Beneath the canopy of trees, a silver fox darts through the undergrowth. He's never cared for the things - he remembers the ducklings and the goslings that had fallen victim to their own resident fox in Culloden. Kildare thinks to just leave the creature alone and venture his journey on. There are still so many places for him to see. But the creature hangs in his peripheral vision and Broch's voice speaks from the past,  'He's ah wiley thing. Have to have yer wits about ye when he's around, ye hear?' The colt in Kildare longs for retribution for the patrols he was never included in, for the geese and ducklings he had never been given a chance to protect.

The fox lowers his head to the ground and Kildare can feel his ears pull back, pinning to his head. This is for you Broch, he thinks and lowers his head to the ground, snaking his head forward as he trots toward the scheming creature.

@[Jesper] Kildare doesn't like foxes LOL but thought this could be interesting
