    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

The blue eyes that regard the towering outlines of Hyaline's mountains could be considered mournful. Lilliana stands underneath a bough of trees, shielded from the blossoming rays of sunshine that have started to illuminate the Field. Her features, normally receptive and welcome (especially here - the recruiting grounds), remain closed. The mouth that so often quirks upwards in a beaming smile finds a thin line instead. The crimson girl is quiet, pensive and finds herself wishing for Elaina.

    Blazing, golden Elaina.
Beautiful, brave Elaina who had always given so much of that to Lilliana.
A shadow seemed to cast over Beqanna without her torchbearer.

The fog in Taiga had been thick, almost blindingly so. Her usual route to the Field had taken longer, almost twice as long, and Lilliana had found herself here by the mid-morning sun. Her blue eyes study a group of mares, travel along to the center to watch a few young stallions as they stretched their legs and tested their muscles. This has become an education in itself; Lilliana is learning what to look for in possible recruits for the northern forests (at least what she looks for). The more she does this, the more she brings herself here, Lilliana thinks of her father.

Paraiso might be gone. But as she views a mare timidly standing alone, Lilli remembers what Valerio had told her so long ago. Stand for those who cannot stand for themselves. That is all a lifetime ago, another girl really, from the one who stands here. But Lilli can still remember the thunder in his baritone voice, the piercing blue of his eyes as he tried to impart that particular lesson. As he tried to make her understand why their family had been worth the sacrifice of war, why he had to leave them time and time again.

Leaning her shoulder into the bark of one of the smaller trees next to her, Lilli relaxes in the autumn shade beneath an inferno of changing leaves. The breeze, crisp with the scent of earth, pleasantly fills her flaring nostrils and finally, the beginning of a smile emerges.

He is not well versed in the ways of the world. He had remained close with her parents, loved unconditionally and there was not much he wanted from the world that they could not provide. He was able to be wild and free with his twin Cyprin. They had laughed and carried on joyfully in the confines of their secret home as Lior and Nayl had decided to retire to a quiet life near the sea so they could raise their children out of the eye of the kingdoms.

Slowly shuffling, he moves without much concern for others who may be watching. The length of his feathering was dirty, some clumped together by icy mud. Bron does not seem to notice nor really care as he tosses his long hair from his face, dark eyes observing a few others as the gathered to talk or nibble at the grasses.

A copper bright mare is off near the treeline, alone, looking small against the autumn backdrop. She seemed to nearly blaze just as bright as the fire colored leaves. His dark eyes observe her detachment, neither really curious or truely interested, Bron had to make an attempt to socialize with others than his family.

The low thud-thud of his feet are rhythmic and slow as he nears the small mare, leathery wings pressed to his spine. Bron opens his mouth as his dark eyes grip her delicate features...unsure of what to do next that would deem him something other than dangerous. "Hello." Awkward. Low. Something barely above a rumbling grunt.

Bron's brow furrows slightly as he nods, his heart in a panic for he had really muffed it up, but who was she anyway? It's not like he had to impress her or ever see her after this moment if he did not decide to. Instead, Bron offers a polite nod, relaxing back on the thickness of his haunches, dark eyes rolling away to look upward at the chilly blue sky. 'Pretty day..." He remarks lowly to her as his eyes flicker back to the pretty mare's face.

From an awkward beginning, Bron (as he relaxes) finds it a bit easier to speak with her...if she chose to.
    i'll keep you close

She studies the trees - the wave in their bark, their height and she is reminded of another day when she had wondered about the stories these trees could tell if they spoke. She had wondered what memories they held, what scenes had played out beneath their branches.

Finally, she looks up enough far enough to see the leaves. They have turned yellow, orange, red - all raging at the loss of summer. Lilli laments the loss with them in thoughtful silence.

It's his slow shuffle she hears first, an ambling that makes her worried that whoever is approaching her is tired. A delicately-tipped ear flicks in his direction before it is followed by her concerned gaze coming to rest on him as her head turns. She takes notice of the way he wraps his wings around him and offers him what she hopes is a welcoming smile, even if that smile feels so far away. As he comes closer, etiquette makes her pull away from the supporting sapling and she disperse her weight evenly on four legs.

"Hello," she chimes at him. If his greeting is a grunt, hers is bright and silver like bells. Practiced from being out here so often these past few days.
Whatever her thoughts, she buries them away as she turns her attention on the blue tobiano stallion.

He nods and then shifts his weight before he turns his dark gaze to the sky where Lilli's blue eyes follow and her forelock gives way as her head tilts upward. "It is," she adds, "Better make the most of it. Winter will be here before we know it." The chestnut mare takes a moment to appreciate the blue of the sky, how prettily it stands out against the inferno of the autumn foliage that lingers in her peripheral vision.

There is a momentary silence before she glances back to Bronsonn, "What brings you out to the Field today?" Small talk, idyll musings but Lilliana doesn't mind.

Not that she ever does but today, its a welcome distraction from all the places that her mind asks her to wander.
