“If you eat the empires, what are you supposed to reign over?” There was still a high trill to her childish voice, a girlish lilt that was laced with a laugh. She wasn’t laughing at him, necessarily; she was not cruel, not at her core, and even though he couldn’t see the smile that adorned her lily-white lips, maybe he could hear it.
Still alongside of her brother, she follows his eyes back to Anaxarete, catching the almost imperceptible nod. “If you’re staying, I will stay, too,” she says into the curve of his neck.
