    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

For what seems to be the thousandth time, Yronwood shudders, as he walks along a half-seen Jungle path. He can't seem to stop doing it, in fact. Ever since he'd woken up, sporting fur that was A: non-spotted and B: bright, fire-engine red, while his mane and tail were now striped green and silver. Between his color change and the two-colored scar that now encircled his right foreleg just under where the limb joined his body, he had unfortunate proof that his horrible nightmare was somehow all too true. Roe can't figure out how he'd gotten from the jungle to wherever it was that horrible little girl had lived, but he thanks whatever deities might be out there that he safely back home. He's eager to find his twin, hoping that if he can talk about the experience with someone, especially in the light of day, that it will start to have less of a gripe on his psyche.

And just to be in Ellie's presence; he had next to no friends here except for her (not that he'd really tried to befriend any of the females here) and is finding himself feeling bored and restless more and more as time went on. The idea of doing as their mother had, leaving the Jungle in search of a new place to call home, was sounding better and better by the day to the young stallion. When he arrives at his sister's favorite hangout spot, and sees that he is lucky enough to have found her exactly where he'd hoped, he neighs out a loud greeting to her. And then stops dead in his tracks, his eyes on the verge of falling out of their sockets. She is as changed in color as he is; somehow she had gone through the same hell that he had. Another habitual shudder, and he moves to her side. "I see that I wasn't the only one after all....."
