    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

The old that is strong does not wither - Aeolus

The golden, white-flecked sea serpent does not have the abilities his son earned in a quest - he can alter his shape, but not his mind, so everything he does underwater can not need words. With the boy’s mother, he’d never felt he needed the ability to speak or mind-speak, at least not in the moment, not back then.

With his long, shimmering body, the golden male pursues the open ocean and when he stops, the view is endless ocean - schools of tuna flee from his sight, and a float of jellyfish can be found near the surface, not bothering with what happens below their tentacles. He scans the ocean, searching for something - he’d promised they would hunt some fish, but they are far away. But there are other things in the deep, other hunters; and it’s the sight of a tentacle fleeing into the dark that makes him grin. Nodding Aeolus to the fleeing movement with a question in his eyes, he knows what that is - does he want it?

After all, perhaps Aeolus feels better hunting other predatory species, than the truly innocent fish?

from the ashes a fire shall be woken

we've been running away from space and time
if we don't fit in the grand design
Following behind his father, Aeolus keeps a distance between them, but he isn’t far behind. The open water was entirely new experience. Part of him wished to keep close to his father side, knowing in the back of his mind that there were other sea predators.

The thought of other sea monsters out there, like his father and him flickered in his mind. It was possible. There had to be other sea monsters out there like him—maybe not just sea serpents, but more than krakens and kelpies his mother told him about.

Aeolus pushes such thoughts aside the deeper they move into the open sea. He simply forgets such worries when the endless ocean comes into view, the school of tuna flee, and the jellyfish float above near the surface. Golden eyes flicker across the endless abyss all the while big grin remains across his monstrous black purple features.

At the corner of his eye, he notices the sight of fleeing tentacles too. When his father nods indicating if he wants to hunt them, Aeolus nods his head back. He decided it wasn’t best to completely go all in with something more dangerous. A bigger innocent fish seemed the best idea first—although his father and him could likely have taken on any other predator that came their way.

He then waits for his father’s suit to initiate the hunt.
then no one can ever confine us, and no one can ever define us
we're just trying to live where the wild things are
