    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

when the dawn is still dark [Romi]

Faith is the bird that feels the light

when the dawn is still dark.

The pair moves away from the Field and begins the trek back to the Amazons. It is a long trek, made even longer by having to skirt boundary lines instead of walking straight through certain areas. It is nearing dusk by the time travelers finally reach the border of their destination. Their journey had been long, but made even longer as Malka stopped to explain certain aspects of the destinations they skirted - like the battle fields and a spattering of probably barren herd lands.

She stops just short of the entrance to the Jungle and turns to face look at the gray mare who had been tagging along after her all afternoon. "This is the Amazons," she says as she turns and walks into the the trees, slowly weaving her body back and forth to avoid the vines that snaked across the ground and the branches that dangled above their heads. It was an acquired movement and she was sure the gray mare behind her was probably catching her feet quite a bit, though Malka did not stop.

It takes them another good half an hour before Malka reaches a clearing with a small stream that runs through on the far side of it. Here she takes a break and sips from the clear water. After she has quenched her thirst, she lets her eyes drift back towards Romi. "These are the meeting grounds. Any important meeting is almost always held here and many of the mares hang around here as well as it is pretty central location among the Jungle."

She lets her ears shift around as she listens in on the familiar animal chatter. At dusk, some of the creatures were at their wildest and Malka was enjoying listening to their antics. "Please feel free to roam around and meet the other sisters. We've recently held a large meeting, so it may be a while until we are all gathered together again," she explains. Malka wasn't sure when Scorch's next meeting was going to be and if it did happen, she wasn't even sure if she would be around. She had volunteered herself to go live in the 'Falls to become the Amazons healer and that was where she would spend much of her time in the coming years.
