    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

the dead are gone, and the living are hungry.

She’s not so sure what to do with herself these days. The Jungle is quiet - in a lull before the oncoming storm. The possibility of war is on everyone’s lips, and it’s making the sisters anxious and unnaturally quiet. It’s making Lexa anxious as well, and is part (though not all) of the reason that she’s finally made the move to take the oath and join the ranks of the sisterhood.

Perhaps more curious however, is the fact that her own mother is quiet. Lyris has retreated into the shadows of the Jungle, taking Lexa’s little sister Larken with her. Lexa is so used to fitting her life around her mother’s moods and interests that this sudden absence is a little unsettling, even though it gives her more freedom.

And so, because she’s really not sure what else to do, she practices. Every morning and night she practices, honing her skills and becoming stronger every day. With war looming, it’s important for her to be ready after all.

On this particular afternoon though she’s decided to take a short break and visit the main part of the kingdom. She hasn’t interacted much with her fellow sisters and, especially now that she’s joined the ranks, she thinks that’s a bit remiss. These are the horses that she’s promised to fight for … the horses that have promised to fight for her. She should know them far better than she does. There’s no one about quite yet, so she settles into the shade of a young kapok tree to wait. As quiet as the Jungle is these days, she has no doubt someone will be around soon. Someone always is.

Bah, not the greatest post. Clearly I need to post her more. Smile
