Now, I don’t know if this is allowed, so completely ignore me if it is not, but, if the foal rolls for grey, could it possibly be a heterozygous grey rather than a homozygous grey? It won’t affect the foal’s colour at all, just how it passes on the grey colour. Again, if that’s not allowed just ignore me.
