    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

And suddenly the twins appear, giggling in unison in their usual creepy way. Kirke eyes them uncomfortably as they approach. She hasn’t had much interaction with the twins, but from what she knows of them, they are entirely too reliant on each other. At least they don’t seem too reliant on their mother - they simply giggle and chant as Carys is turned into a human, and as Kirke strikes her down.

They stay back though, keeping their distance as Carys falls to the earth. Clearly they are happy to simply stand back and enjoy the show.

And so it falls to her to end it.

Kirke steps forward again, staring down at her mother’s child-like body. Carys raises her bleeding head, eyes meeting Kirke’s own. “Please.” Kirke sneers. She can’t show weakness in front of father. “Pathetic.” She raises her hoof and brings it down, over and over and over until the body lies still.

    It’s done. Carys is dead.

Kirke steps back and flicks her head, trying to clear the smell of blood from her nose. Her eyes seek out her father’s, hoping to see approval on his handsome face. “Are you happier now Father?” Carys will never plague them again.

Perhaps now, finally, she can gain more favour in Father’s eyes. Though she knows she still has far to go before she will ever be as important as her father.
