    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

The sun shine down on the exhausted bay mare. The grass tickled her black socks. Dark beauty shook her dark chocolate mane and proceed forward towards the crystal clear lake. Her thirst urging her forward. With a skip in her step, she soon stood knee high in the cool water. She neighed in joy before leaning forward and quenched her thirst, enjoying the cool liquid go down her throat.

Satisfied, the mare lifted her elegant head, flickering her golden orbs over to the field taking all the new scents and sites. She was told this was where the herdless mares go to relax and possibly find a new family or perhaps a kingdom. She snorted, not to worried about surrounding herself with other mares and bossy stallions. She lived a solitude life for far to long to be comfortable with others, but it wouldn't hurt to try. Her stubborn streak didn't help matters either. Her instincts also pushed her here, ready to be accepted with her species. She briefly wondered what were the stallions around the area like. She would possibly become one of their mares. She wasn't sure what to think on that matter. She never experienced the opposite gender of her species before so she was clueless.

Pushing those thoughts away, the young mare busied herself with kicking the water. Creating large splashes soaking her smooth, soft fur along her belly. The mare snickered playfully, bobbing her head up and down her childish ways peeking out. She trots around in the shallow end playing with herself like she did when she was just a young foal by kicking up the water and attempting to avoid the falling liquid. Her golden eyes spark with glee. For a first time in a while, she felt at peace here not having to consistently look over her shoulder for danger and the like.

He’s riding on a bit of a high. His little herd in the Mountains continues to grow - blossoming from two mares, to suddenly five mares and two young sons. Considering where he’d been just over a year ago, who would have thought that he’d be having so much success now?

Not to mention his successes in other areas. His pathetic waste of a mother is finally dead, dispatched by his delightful little apprentice. He’d been very fortunate to run across the boy on that day in the playground - Siberian has proven to be a very useful tool, and he has no doubt the child will continue to do so. And with the upcoming war, doubly so.

But, Siberian is not his concern for the moment. He’s returned to the field, emboldened by his recent success. He quite likes Kodaline and Nixie (both prizes for quite different reasons), and he’s eager to add yet another to his little family.

He’s rather chipper as he trots into the field, an uncharacteristic bounce colouring his step. His red eyes scan the field hopefully, but for the moment he cannot see any unaccompanied females and his mind wanders. What would his father think, if he could see Zayn now? Would he be proud of his son for getting rid of Fiasko and for his efforts in propagating the family line? He hopes so, but there’s no way for him to ever know. Gryffen’s disappearance is most certainly the greatest area of frustration in his life.

And then his eyes snag upon a bay mare, splashing about in the nearby lake. He pauses mid thought, red eyes narrowing in. She’s a fetching thing, though certainly not more spectacular that the vibrant pink Nixie back home. But she is alone, young, and pretty enough for him to find her attractive.

He sidles up to her with a charming smile plastered on his face. “What’s a beautiful mare like you doing here all by yourself?”
