    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

have i been lost? inside myself and my own mind
hypnotized; mesmerized by what my eyes have seen

She falls into a rhythmic pattern of fluffing and reorganizing her feathers, idly glancing to the peculiar creature mere feet from her. She follows the faint lines of his too-short muzzle, his rounded, beaded black nose and his dark eyes - she also sees the hard lines of his face softened, and he is relaxed. She, too, has become relaxed in his presence, and no longer fears. Casting a wayward glance to her hindquarters, the scratch is minor and the flow of red has single coagulated, leaving behind a reddened encasing. He begins to speak again, and once more her doe eyes meet his own.

A gentle wafting breeze carries up over the cliff from the depths of the cove, washing them in its icy chill as night falls and she spreads the length of her wings over her petite form to try to keep it out. She is too far from home now to find shelter in its sloping caves, and so she settles amidst the brush for a long moment. She pauses to look at him in all of his massive, ursine glory, watching as the gears begins to shift inside of his mind. She returns his smile tiredly, her head tilted just slightly to the left as she listens. He is within his own capacity now, and the fear has melted away - she no longer feels he is any kind of a threat; not with such a deep realization settling into his bones.

He seems to focus on something deeper and further away than the very moment they are in, and she takes this moment to stand and move closer to him. His warmth is undeniably alluring, and guilt has begun to settle within the depths of her heart. She had reacted poorly, and with good reason, but had little reason now to hold any sort of a grudge. She settled beside him, the curve of her hip briefly touching his leg as she nestles against him and cradles her wing over her petite body once more. She settles her cheek down onto his broad paw, staring briefly at the very talons that had struck at her hours before, before closing her eyes. Her lashes fall across her cheek as she sighs and breathes deeply, comfortably cuddled up against the massive predator beside her.

".. if you say so, Siberian .. but if you ask me? You have always had it in you. You just have to believe that."

And with that, the small child - who has settled between her youth and womanhood - dozes off, slipping away into a gentle sleep.

Siberian had thought that with the matter of his argumentative "other half" settled, it was time to go back to the Chamber, even if night was fast upon them.  His young companion, however, had surprised him with other plans, and now was using his paw for a pillow.  The Budyonny looks down at her, marveling at the complete reversal in trust that had occurred in the hours since they had so abruptly met.  And then he attempts to wriggle his paw loose and make his escape, but that only causes the sleeping filly to burrow even closer to his shaggy hide and pin his foot even further.  A soft sigh escapes him as he gives up the hope of getting loose.  No, he was trapped here, at least until morning came and Misra woke up once again.  His expression shifts to a mixture of amusement and annoyance at her bold actions, but he remains where he is rather than forcefully yank his paw free out from under the slumbering pegasus.

She was a brave soul, this Cove girl, and she had a good heart to be so trusting of him now that she would actually curl up next to him as if he wore the shape of a housecat rather than that of a massive predator.  His eyes upon her are gentler than he would ever let another Chamberling see them as, lest they think him grown soft and unfit for duty.  For awhile, he simply stares absently off in the direction of the shore, listening to the waves' unending song and not thinking of much of anything at all, simply marveling at the continued silence in his head.  Eventually however, sleep catches up with him as it had Misra, and he lets out a truly impressive yawn before lowering his head down between his paws.  He looks at the filly again out of the corner of the eye closest to her, blinks several times, and closes his own eyes in sleep, another sigh escaping his lips as he succumbs to the sandman.
