    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

it's strange what desire will make foolish people do.
Maybe she is destined to be sought out by those with darkness in their heart. If she was older, perhaps she would see this as a reflection of herself; darkness is drawn to her as she radiates the darkness.
But this is not something she thinks of - she is too young, and she still believes that these terrible things happen simply because she is unfortunate.

She walks alone through the forest, half-heartedly looking for her protector or her mother, her ears always pricked for the sounds of the monster (she is lucky that the only monster she has thus far encountered cannot sneak up on her so easily (she is also lucky that she still only believes she has met one monster to date - soon that mirror will shatter)).

    She isn’t alone for long.

Her dark eyes are drawn to a noise, a lavender horse with wings and a cold gaze. She wills herself out of sight, and her body responds briefly; the red-and-green filly blinks out of sight for a second, and then she loses her grip. But it is a start - she allows herself a few moments of pride before she turns her attention to the stallion that hovers above her, ready to pounce; a light purple sword of Damocles.

She is no longer that stubborn, defiant girl; but nor is she easy to bend and to break. She turns her whole body, lifts her head up, sets a hard look upon her face that she hopes looks strong but really looks lost (that’s how she is, though, that’s what she wants to be and what others see in her). “Who are you?” she says, a million more questions settling behind her teeth, desperate to be asked but unlikely to ever see the air (she can already sense that there is darkness coming).
