    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

He giant feet crunch across half-melted snow and slowly reviving moss carpet. His territory lies in a valley of sorts, hills to the west, high peaks to the east and south. Cool breezes and fresh water flow from the high peaks, lush grazing to the south. There are several meadows scattered among the ancient sequoias. His favorite lies at the bottom of the south-eastern ledges, where water runs from a mountain spring off of the gray stone to feed the small grove at its foot. All that is alive is a few bits of reluctant chutes that don't it's not spring yet. He picks at the greenery idly, swiveling his scooping black ears all around and keeping his sense of smell keen, hoping to come across one girl in particular.

    Sabé.

As he chews thoughtfully he keeps his teal eyes peeled. He hasn't seen her up close in a few weeks. She is probably getting large as of late – spring is just around the corner. The snows are melting, rushing off of the alps and into his little valley. Rivers rage and the swamp lands are swollen with high waters.

He wonders just now how his first born is developing inside of his dun lovers belly. How is she doing, how is she carrying? Is she a good mother, he wonders. As he gets older he discovers more concern for more things. Gone are the days of frivolousness and uncaring. Now he must become meticulous, driven and clever.  He must cultivate his family and his home. He'll raise them to the height of success – in whatever way he can. The beginning is with the woman and children, he assumes. He hopes, because that is the direction he's choosing to go.

The golden mare was off by herself digging up snow to enjoy the small amount of grass she could find. She had not seen Chemdog for some time now, most likely the last time was when they conceived. He was probably off recruiting new mares or ensuring a plentiful of foals this spring. She was curious to how many foals he would have this spring aside from hers, but she didn't know if she wanted to know; and she surely didnt care to seek out the other mares.

Her side was now full and obvious that she was carrying, curious everyday to what the foal would look like, how it would act. She was unsure how to be a mother, would she even be a good one, Would chem care to be a good father, or did he just want the sex? She had many questions but shook her body relieving herself from her thoughts. As she raised her head she heard another lingering near by, curious she moved closer. She hoped it would be Chemdog, but if it was a mare she would lurk and return to her spot by herself.

A few paces north and it unvailed to be Chemdog, it was her lucky day. She gave a small nicker and trotted over to the stallion, did he miss her? She slowed to a halt when she was within touching distance and extended her neck to nuzzle his mid back (where a saddle would sit) and gently moved up to his neck. She withdrew her head before speaking Hello Chem, its been a while she spoke softly, but truthfully. She moved to find his gaze in his teal eyes.
