    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    Warrior In The Falls

Raxa was probably too much of a fan of battle, moreso than some other mares she knew. She didn't know why fighting ignited her spirit so much, but it just did. The adrenaline racing through her veins as she fought, the power she experienced when fighting an opponent stronger than herself as she proved her own strength...

The point is, she felt good when she fought. Most mares would feel good when they had their own foal and took on the task of motherhood, but Raxa didn't know if she'd ever be ready for that. She was ostracized so young, and didn't really get to experience the love of a dam. If she ever had a foal, could she still be a normal dam, provide the care and love the little creature needed? Her heart said yes, but her brain told her no. Raxa was known for listening to her brain moreso than her heart, so right now, her instincts said to fight, and not to worry about foals for a number of years to come.

That's what she was doing now. Having been searching the battlefield for an opponent, the mare's spirit ignited when she spotted the horse. A stallion, tall and powerful by the looks of him. He had a pitch black coat, coupled with a blue mane and tail. Rather unusual, but here, Raxa had seen stranger. The wings were a sight, but she did not care. She was ready to fight, itching to, even. She didn't care how badly she would be wounded. If the battle fairy didn't heal her (even though it usually did), the magic of the Falls back home would.

The brindled roan mare let out a furious battle call, her muscled neck rippling as the buried whinny escaped her. She did not believe in words before a battle; no words should be used. That was not what this time was for. This time was about proving strength, showing how tough one could be no matter their gender.

She charged forward to meet the black stallion in combat. She curled her lips back, teeth exposed, as she reared into the air, coming down with her toughened hooves toward the stallion's back. Her teeth were aiming for his neck, a fiery look in her eye as the battle officially started.

She trumpets her presence, something that he had never, would never do. No let the others come to you, that is his motto. She scans the area and he begins to make his way towards her warming up his muscles, so that the shock of the fight would not hinder him. Starting with a trot, then making his way into a gallop, the black feathered wings stretch out to catch the gentle breeze. This he uses to force her concentration from his body directly making estimations difficult, his size, and yea ok it is a little bit of an intimidation maneuver. Even just the slightest pause would give him one more advantage than before, the wings added extra mass, and logistic hindrances to any tactical move she would try to make. A blow to the back would need additional movement with the avian appendages in the way.
She is red, an easy color to spot, and latch onto. The spotting of her coat an eye catcher that also makes pinning her movements simple. She races towards him, her mane and tail a banner in the wind, lashing around, screaming out her location. There is nothing stealthy about her. What there is though is size, she was small, he would engulf her with his body through sheer height. When they meet he notes that she rocks back on her haunches, this only gives him seconds to develop a counter. With his left side against her right he plunges forward using his weight to shift into her, aiming his shoulder for her ribs or loins. At this he can feel her knees scrapping his croup, it would leave a bruise but if he kept moving it would be nothing to serious.

He keeps his face low using his momentum to rock onto his forelegs and kick out at her throat latch and cheek. The possibility of scrapping her neck was the least amount of damage he would do. Phaedrus can feel the sting of her teeth on his right hock or cannon somewhere in the mix, he winces more for her then himself. If she wasn’t careful he was sure that his kick would knock out teeth, or make her muzzle collapse with the shattering of her bones. For a moment he feels sick to his stomach on his landing he spins away from her, tucking his wings to his sides, circling to face her and make sure that he hadn’t just killed her in the accident. Usually he is much more controlled and never went for moves that could inadvertently kill another. But her movements had shocked him, and he had countered to the best of his ability with no room for thought on the risks or severity. He is slow compared to her, but his attacks are far more deadly with his size and muscle structure, creating a scenario where they both leave unscathed was becoming more and more difficult.

Raxa was only slightly startled by the wings, given that she hadn't seen them from a distance. Now that she was up close, the force of the appendages threw her off a bit. That, combined with his move to avoid getting hit by her hooves and teeth, caused her to land blows in places she hadn't originally planned. Okay, now she was mad.

Raxa groaned in pain as she felt the stallion's shoulder strike her ribs, nearly knocking the wind out of her. She'd received blows like that before, so she knew how to regain herself, but that didn't mean she didn't feel pain from the impact. Despite her body telling her to go down and back away, Raxa knew she couldn't let the stallion off. She felt her front knees hit the stallion's croup. It wasn't an effective blow, something that made her frustrated with her poor tactics. Perhaps she would have to be more careful about this than she thought.

She saw the stallion turn and strike out with his hind legs. If she didn't move, they would strike her face, and she could not have that. Knowing it would hurt, but be better than having her muzzle be damaged, Raxa turned, exposing her neck to the stallion's hooves while turning her face to protect it. The brute strength behind the blow was enough to send vibrations through the mare's neck and down her spine; that one had definitely hurt. However, the damage was not permanent.

She watched the stallion spin away from her, tucking his wings in, turning to face her. No doubt he was using them to shield his spine and abdomen. No matter, she'd aim for somewhere different. Wait a minute, was that a look of pity, of sickness, on his face? Was he actually worried about the wounds he might have inflicted? If he really felt sorry for her, that astonished her. Why would he feel sorry? Battles needed to be fought to the hardest level, feeling no pity. Even in mocks, Raxa treated it like an enemy, because if she didn't, she knew her urge for battle would become soft. She would start showing mercy...

No, she could not do that. No other horse had ever shown mercy; why should she afford the luxury of such a thing?

Raxa charged him again, ears flat against her head. She bared her teeth, going for his neck again, but before she made contact, she put her head down and threw her hind weight using the momentum of her sprint. She lashed out at the stallion with her hind hooves, putting as much force as she could behind the blow, knowing it would be needed to actually get in some damage and make it hard for him to fight.
