    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

The appaloosa stallion decided to check out the meadow, he often times passed it but never entered. He looked around in amazement of the beautiful scenery, the gass almost surpassed his knees and it provided just enough shade from the summers heat. It as not autumn and the days were growing cooler, although the days were still pretty humid.

He was raised to be the next lead stallion of his fathers herd since he was born, he learned all there was to learn but he felt like he missed out on his childhood. He had spent little time playing with others while he was a child aside from his twin brother Francois, and a couple encounters in the playground. This probably made him slightly more immature than he should be for almost being two now.

He trotted into the meadow, and looked around at the others off in there own groups chatting with each other. It was nice just to be outside the herd lands and around others not closely related to him. There were squirrels off by the tree line playing with each other, when one ventured into the meadow. Andras' lips curled into a smile and he playfully bolted towards the squirrel, it quickly ran in an attempt to escape Andras. Of course Andras meant no harm, just to play, he playfully thrashed his head about and kicked out his hind right leg until the squirrel got a hold of a tree and climbed up it. Andras lifted his front legs off the ground and whinnied playfully at the squirrel who ran higher up the tree until he was out of sight. Andras snorted and circled the tree before lowering his head to grab a mouthful of grass.

The light that shines so bright.

This time her trip to the meadow was planned. She had been there once before, but back then the meadow hadn’t been the place she wanted to go to. Gyps had wanted to go the playground again, but she had gotten lost on the way there. The thought of that time only causes her to grimace now, absolutely not liking how she had made a fool of herself. She had been totally driven by panic and fear and she hadn’t been able to keep a clear view on the situation.

For quite while already she has been eager and curious to visit the place again. Maybe she would run into Chem again, who so kindly helped her. Than would she show a more mature side of her, showing how much she had grown. In her opinion she thought of an adult now too, but that exact thought proved how much of a child she still was. Not that Gyps was aware of that of course, children never were. First she had soared through the sky in search of the stallion, her wings carrying her through the air without any effort.

When she lands it isn’t Chem who she had spotted, no it was another familiar face that she hadn’t seen in a while. Andras had grown, matured, just as she had herself. His horn was even longer now, or maybe did it only seem like that. When the blue haired girl tucks her wings at her sides she looks at him, grinning at his attempts to play with the squirrel. Slowly – trying create as less sounds as possible – she moves closer towards the horned appaloosa colt. Or not really a colt anymore. Soon they both would be two years old, almost ready to leave their childhood behind.

”You scared it, you know.” She states, as of it’s a well-known truth. She no longer is the shy little filly she once was, the one he had met and played with in the Playground. Tilting her head to the side, causing her navy blue forelock to fall sideward and reveal her black and white head, studying him curiously. ”Fancy seeing you here, Andras.” She’s still grinning as she paws the ground, whinnying at him.

His grazing was interrupted by a circle of dust that erupted around him, How rude he thought to himself as he raised his head to see what exactly it was that cause this dirt to be thrown. As he glanced up it took him a moment but it was hard to forget that day in the playground where he met the filly with a dark blue mane and sky blue tail. She certainly was no filly anymore, she has matured almost a mare and not bad on the eyes. You scared it you know she said and he gave off a small laugh with a nod of his head.

She tilted her head and her forelock fell, leaving her face bare. It certainly is an honor to see you again Gyps he playfully dipped his head to her as if she was a royal, tucking his right leg under his stomach. He laughed as he pulled himself back up and scanned over her wings, they grew with her an are as beautiful as ever. She pawed at the ground whinnying at him which made him remember how he tried playing with the squirrel, perhaps it would be funner to play with an equine. He ran up to her lifting his front legs off the ground(like a half rear) and playfully thrashed his head about, it was like they were back in the playground playing as foals. How have you been? he asked curious coming to a stand still, it was a lot harder to trash around and talk than it seemed.

The light that shines so bright.

Instantly the corners of her lips curl up as he replies. So he hadn’t forgotten about her. Well, that was good, she supposed. He dips her head and she raised hers, playing along with him. ”Make sure to remember that, Andras” she teasingly jokes. Being a royal didn’t sound too bad, well, that was except for being thé royal. The young girl liked the thought of being a princess, having all the right to act as a bratty and spoiled little thing, just the thought of being the monarch with all the burdens upon your shoulders didn’t appeal to her as much. But for now it was a fun game to play. Gyps might look almost grown up, she certainly wasn’t entirely yet. And Andras clearly wasn’t either. Or at least not around her.

Her gaze follows his to her wings and in a reaction to that she unfolds and ruffles them slightly, before turning to him grinning. As she the black wings against her side again her own eyes travel to his horn, which had clearly grown with him. It was not only longer, but also thicker and the tip looked sharper than before. However, he doesn’t give her a long time to study it, as he suddenly moves closer and trashes his head – and horn – around while he rears. Of course Gyps doesn’t let that challenge go unanswered. Her wings unfold again, spreading until they are at their max, and she lifts her front legs from the ground too, to meet his low rear. Playfully hitting one of her white legs in his direction.

She’s about to rear again when he suddenly falls still, re-starting the conversation again. This surprises her, but she soon answers him with a grin. ”Good, I suppose, nothing too fancy. And you? Has life been good to you?” she asks him in return. Not just to be polite, but also because she’s genuinely interested. After all, she had enjoyed playing with him as a child and he still seemed nice. So what harm could it be to see if there was some friendship to blossom?

The stallions lips curled in a smile at the words of Gyps, her voice was gentle and innocent. The mare raised her head like she was royal and he couldn't help but laugh gently. Andras certainly has visited plenty of lands and met a variety of equines but after today he will never be able to forget the image of Gyps.

She caught him staring at her wings! Boy was he embarrassed, but she didn't seem to mind. In fact she unfolded her wings for a better view, they were beautiful. They looked like velvet, and sharp as talons Impressive wings you got there he laughed lifting his gaze from the mares wings to find hers.

She playfully returned his gesture rearing up with him, she shot out a leg towards him and he laughed in return. It was like they didn't miss a beat, like it was just yesterday they were in the playground playing as two foals. Although the fun was cut short by conversation, she said she had been good which was a relief to hear. He couldn't say he would be pleased to hear if something bad happened to her; she asked in return how he was doing and he took a moment to gather his thoughts. Good! I am a warrior in the Falls, I have met quiet a few equines and travel a lot he didn't mention his fathers herd. It wasn't exactly attractive to every equine, the herd life that is. Gyps didn't seem like a herd mare, she was to strong and hard headed, she would fit best in a kingdom. He hoped that he could carry on his life in the Falls though, his father was young and well and by the time Andras would be Alpha he would be long gone. Have you picked a caste? he asked curious to her choice, he sees her as a diplomat, but than again she is strong enough to be a warrior.

The light that shines so bright.

Being a royal would probably be nothing for her. She would suck terribly. The responsibilities are too much for her carefree and still playful nature. Oh sure, Gyps does want to achieve things and gain from whatever she achieves, but at the same time she’s too lazy to put much effort in things. She’s like the little effort big results type of horse, not really interested in making her hooves dirty, but wanting to get things done. Not really the most effective characteristics if you wanted to achieve something, but maybe that was the result of being raised in a herd. Although both her parents were the alphas, she had never learned how to do other things than just live peacefully in the herd.

She chuckles, grinning even, but all to hide the sudden hesitance she feels because of his compliment. His words stir some unfamiliar feeling inside of her, which she eventually blames on the excitement of seeing Andras again. ”Your horn looks sharper too, you sure you haven’t hurt anyone with it?” she teases him, still grinning and hoping to mask her sudden hesitance from before.

Their play is cut short as the conversation starts. Well, maybe that’s for the better too, Gyps thinks. After all, they both had aged and although still young, they weren’t children anymore. Or that did she like to think. A smile edges on her lips as he tells her he has been good, she feels a strange sense of relief, but mostly she’s just glad he’s okay. She tilts her head slightly, carefully listening to his words about this kingdom, the Falls. Sure, she knew about the kingdoms, her dad was active in the Dale, but she didn’t really have experience in that matter herself. So Gyps ends up shaking her head slightly, eyes moving towards the ground as she dips her head slightly. ”Neither. I do not live in a kingdom.” That she lived in a herd was something that she didn’t tell him. He could think she was a traveller for her sake. She could’ve joined the Dale, her father would’ve been proud, but she feels like she doesn’t have what it takes.

Offering Andras a smile she hopes to bring the conversation to another subject. ”A warrior, huh? Means you’re training and working out all of the time?” she asks, genuinely interested. Her ears are pointing forward, in his direction, and she’s smiling sweetly. ”Playing with squirrels isn’t really that what a warrior does, doesn’t it? Or were you hunting it instead?”

She gave a chuckle, but it seemed more or less to hide another emotion she was feeling, he wasn't sure exactly what though. She was quick to break the silence, joking about his horn a smile curled on his lips once again with a chuckle to follow. "I haven't hurt anything but I did mock with a stallion!" it probably wasn't as grand a task as he thought, but remembering the mock battle with Romek it was so enticing and he couldn't wait to do another one.

He spoke about his caste and awaited a response from her, but she just shook her head and said she doesn't live in a kingdom. He was curious to where she lived but I guess that doesn't matter; she was still young, she had plenty of time to still pick a kingdom and pick a caste. Well if that's what she wants that is. He feels like they have known each other forever, but in reality they barely know anything about each other. They were just two foals who enjoyed each others company.

She seemed distracted by her own thoughts but again she gave a smile and broke the silence, she spoke about him being a warrior and always working. "Well I try to stay busy, training and stuff" he lifted his head up, all tall and strong he broke into laughter before relaxing his head to its normal position. But than, of course, she teased him about the squirrel playing with squirrels it rung through his ears and he could feel his body grow hot with embarrassment. His gaze flicked around and he chuckled it off Yea, hunting! thats what I was doing he played it off, did she believe him?! He pranced back to the tree the squirrel climbed up and struck his horn against the tree, a line of bark fell off and he looked up the tree "dang squirrel got away" he laughed as he turned back to Gyps. "So you aren't training for a caste than what brought you to the meadow to?" Maybe she lived here, Andras has heard of equines who lived in the meadow.

The light that shines so bright.

She has a hard time to stop the next fit of giggles, somehow she manages, but she cannot stop the wide smile that breaks through. Looking at Andras like this she can surely imagine him mock with another stallion, testing his own power and getting to know his own body in an entirely different way. But at the same time Gyps couldn’t completely shed the picture of Andras chasing the squirrel, trying to play with it. Because she was really sure that that had been the case. ”Already trying hard to succeed, I see” she replies, still grinning. ”But are you sure your opponent didn’t just kick your butt?” Of course she didn’t mean it, but Gyps couldn’t help it but to tease Andras like this.

He’s right on one part, although they have known each other for a while now, they barely know anything about each other. She didn’t even know where he lived – well that was until now, since he just told her that he was a warrior in the Falls – and she had never shared something about her home with him either. Not that it really mattered, right? Those talks would only bore her. Their current conversation in much more fun.

Gyps can only shake her head, still grinning widely, as he puffs his chest out and makes himself tall. It made him look like little colt that tries to impress other children by acting like he’s all mighty. ”Dear lord, please don’t do that Andras. You’ll look like a fool” she giggles teasingly, bumping her nose into his shoulder. Tilting her head to the side she studies him for a second, smile falling and eyes narrowing slightly. She follows his movements, watching him attack the tree with his horn. Well, of course she didn’t believe him. What use did it have to hunt a squirrel anyway? ”What has the poor thing done to deserve that?” she fakes ignorance, moving her right wing a bit over her chest as if she clutching her arms to her chest.

With his next question directed at her she shrugs a bit, gaze moving away to watch across the meadow. ”Boredom, I guess. And it’s a shame to pass on a great opportunity to fly in a clear blue sky. Not really practise, but I can’t leave them unused. Otherwise I’ll get so sore..” she answers him, a small smile pulling on her lips with that last sentence. It was true, if she didn’t fly for weeks the muscles would protest if she would take the sky again. It was better to just fly regularly, which was good for her mood too, after all, flying was one of the most fantastic experiences in this world.
