    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

She can no longer fit underneath her dam (it has been some time since she has been able to do that). However, it doesn’t mean that Aela doesn’t huddle closer to her mother when the spring mornings can still be chilly. Summer comes closer to Beqanna (slower to the North) but there is the occasional morning where winter gleams its frosty breath through the Redwoods.

The chestnut yearling shivers and leans her lanky form towards @[kota]. Aela presses her head into the spotted shoulder of the mare, finding comfort in the familiarity of her black dots. She knows each one. Aela has counted them like a stargazer might count stars as she falls asleep next to her mother each night.

Reaching up, she lips the white mane that drapes down Kota’s graceful neck. Wake up, Aela thinks with a light stamp of her right hoof. She is impatient, as most children are, eager to start the day. The sun comes breaking through the branches above and the golden filly looks up, admiring the way that the rays dance through the fog.

Smiling to herself with an idea, Aela presses her slender head against Kota’s spotted shoulder again. Pressing the memory of the daybreak into her mother, she hopes it might rouse her.
