    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

Something in her that isn’t anger stirs at the touch of the water, the way it trails up her body - rivulets on skin and armour. There’s a treacherous twitch, nearly a tremor, when one runs up the inside of her hip. But though her body might find this arousing, her mind doesn’t. Another time, another place, she would explore this reaction more. See what parts of his body she could find in the darkness and how to elicit a reaction from him. Had she been able to see, she would have found this fun. Would have relished the chance to dance around and slice at someone that could turn into water - she doesn’t often find stallions that can walk away unscathed from anything close to a romantic encounter with her. It was a cruel twist of fate that created her into someone to be mounted, not the one to mount - where she would have flourished.

Right now, though the fire in her mind is too thick, too choked with smoke, to be quenched with anything but blood.

So it is fury, not surprise, when she feels the water - when she begins to understand what kind of beast she’s stumbled across. Another monster - just of a different source.

She twists to where his voice comes from and lunges, canine teeth gleaming at the end of a neck that stretches to him as she snarls - seeking to sink her teeth into flesh and tear out a chuck with a vicious twist of her neck. She’s not sure what she’ll do if he dissolves into water again - chase him until one of them collapses from exhaustion, probably. His words do not register with her at the moment - she’s too much a monster. The switch has been flipped and she’ll have to work to crawl back into a comprehending mind, into a creature capable of speech and understanding.

She might have smiled if she could have understood him because it was, of course, the truth. She was lovely.
