"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura
Derelict does not see a monster when she sees her brother (and cousin, but fortunately the complexities of extended family is something she is blissfully unaware of). Instead, the unmistakable sight of Fiorina’s firstborn brings a smile to her young face. It’s a joy for her, to find family, as she dances the line between monster and horse herself. And twice the joy because her eldest brother, while known to her, is still something of an enigma all the same. Not exactly the social type. But perhaps she can win him over.
Besides, she feels the absence of her twin like a weight and she is eager to not be alone.
The thought ‘alone’ earns her a hiss from the red viper coiled around her folded bone wings and Derelict smiles at the snake in apology. Not alone, not really.
“Hi Fie!” The yearling calls out as she approaches - her prehensile tail twitching a little behind her as she trots over with an eager bounce in her step. She smells the blood of the rabbit on him and inhales it happily as she comes to stand nearby, the light of her fire-adorned horns flickering over them both. “Catch anything good today?”
