    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

Sabal never really felt comfortable when she was any significant distance from the water. However, she found herself growing more comfortable with the common lands especially in the days following the darkness. She usually frequented the River, but in the last few months she had grown more comfortable with the Forest.  She was still hesitant to venture in to the deepest depths of the trees, preferring to stay where she could both hear and smell the water. It’d be foolish to assume that her hesitancy was out of fear, it was more just simple comfort.  The easiest way to put it...it was totally a kelpie thing.

Most of the kelpies in Beqanna shared a common bloodline. Sabal had no relationship with her father, which wasn’t really shocking or anything.  She also didn’t have daddy issues or anything. She just...had always been on her own. In some ways she fit the kelpie stereotype to a T and in so many other ways she just didn’t fit the bill at all. But Sabal obviously didn’t mind being different. She’d made a life for herself she was damn proud of (most of the time).  So while she didn’t have a lot of connections with her blood family, she had a robust family that she’d chosen and built herself.  And there was the fact that she still didn’t understand how some of her sisters preferred to hunt in disgusting swamps.  No way you’d find her lurking in anything so scummy ever.  So gross.

So yeah, Sabal wasn’t really one to stick with the family traditions.

Sabal glows from just inside the treeline, the bioluminescent spots on her body providing a soothing blue glow. She watches as the figure steps from the sea and makes for the trees and she knows that this must be another of her sisters.  She knows she should leave it alone, but she’s just so damn curious so before she can stop herself she’s calling out through the trees...

”Good hunting, Sister,” she calls, wondering if it will be enough to distract the other from her hunt...at least for a little while.
