    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

[private]  and its harder than you think

On one of the last warm nights in Taiga - before the autumn chill came and the Northerners spent the next few months banded together for warmth - Nashua did something that he often did as a youth. The last few evenings had been clear and the striped pegasus had been enjoying the opportunity to take each of his children out on their own individual trips to see the stars.

With winter quickly approaching, Nash knew he wouldn't have the chance to do something like it for some time.

It isn't the promised trip to Hyaline that Bolder has asked (and asked) for; but the young pegasus rises readily when it is his turn to go. His father flashes a handsome smile and then dims his glowing stripes, encouraging the youth to do the same. The yearling does and then the pair take to the sky, to make the most of the last few hours of nightfall. Nash teaches his youngest son about the constellations, pointing out the brightest stars and naming them. These would be guides to help him later in life, to help him find his way home if he ever got lost.

And then the dawn breaks in a wild array of colors. Orange blazes like a wildfire and it ignites the rest of the sky. An omen, Nashua calls out and then arcs his speckled wings downward, starting to spiral to the ground. Bolder stays in the sky a little longer, content to marvel at the colors and tries to memorize them for later. He'll want to show them to Bravely and Saffron.

The birds are starting to stir by the time that he lands near his father. He shakes out his darker wings and approaches the older horse, looking around this unfamiliar part of the Forest. The mountains loomed over Hyaline in the distance but Nashua is already looking north, explaining to his son that a brilliant sunrise like the one they have just seen is a forewarning for a storm. If they are quick, they can hopefully make it back to Taiga before it hits.

But Bolder is peering through the trees, with his silver eyes narrowing curiously despite his father moving away. "Hello?" he calls out and the sound of his son's voice makes Nashua immediately round back to his son. "I think somebody is out there," he says and tilts his moon-marked face towards a heavy copse of trees. "Hello?" he asks again, in case the hazy shape hadn't heard him the first time, quick enough that his father couldn't tell him not to.
