a bright and dangerous spark
Funny. Cheri doesn’t remember a time where Obscene couldn’t help but ask her about the infamous Mr. Prayers, as he liked to call Targaryen. Like clockwork he sprung back to the subject, managing (at least) to call Cheri’s past lover by a more proper title. But his memories concerning that particular night felt a bit skewed to Cheri. “Is that what he thought I was there to do?” She thought humorously, but the laughter couldn’t seem to reach her face. Targaryen was still missing, and even if Obscene was showing his hand by all but admitting his open distaste for Cheri and anything associated with her, the trim black mare still worried about her ‘boyfriend’s’ whereabouts. Obscene had misread her intentions that day, more than once. He should’ve learned to tread more lightly around the subject by now. Jealousy could be so very… telling.
But Cheri wouldn’t say as much. She had landed her mark in giving Obscene what he always seemed to want: more praise. And though his suspicions about her intentions lingered, she found comfort in the idea that he’d know soon enough anyways. She wasn’t planning on keeping secrets, or keeping to herself anymore. The truth was that Obscene’s true opinions about her mattered very little; Cheri had accepted her role alongside Oceane and at the helm of Loess. Maybe she might’ve felt as if her existence and feelings mattered once, but none of them mattered anymore. Now she was a placard, a small part in the histories they told one another in order to keep their strange, magical society alive and thriving.
She was trying to go off-script, and entangling herself with Obscene again might prove more trouble than Cheri could handle, but that seemed to make her all the more determined to see it through.
Her thoughts seemed to run away with Cheri. Side by side, the oddly mismatched pair of horses stood mostly unnoticed on the fringes of a civilization far outside the courts they ruled. Their conversation had lulled, replaced by the indecipherable murmurs of others, but Cheri actually kind of liked the noise. The world seemed so different now, hopeful. Normal. Just as her mind drifted back to the Eclipse, Obscene spoke up and interrupted her daydream.
“You know I can’t fully agree to that.” Cheri smiled coyly. She certainly wanted to, considering everything that wolfish grin of his was suggesting, but she no longer had that kind of wanton freedom. “How about you tell me what it is, and I’ll tell you if it’s within my power to give.” She countered, tilting her head until the tumble of sparkling green bangs cleared from her eyes.
