    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

If Obscene was confused about the turn of temper in the lithe appaloosa, then he wasn’t alone in his worries. Cheri had lamented over the loss about two months into the search, then spent the final four hardening herself against the obvious. When each week passed with no sight or scent of Targaryen, Cheri could physically feel herself getting more and more numb to the sensation of pain when she thought about the seasonally-changing stallion. They had spent a childhood together, roaming and having sleepovers. Flying together like equal counterparts. He knew her better than any other horse.

She would never stop searching for him. Not entirely. But she would certainly try to keep herself from being one of those mares who chased ghosts forever. Hunting her ghost in particular was becoming less of an enigma and more of a job. “He was always forgetting, always losing track.” Cheri raised a brow, glad to hear that her once-paramour had been seen. Obscene’s knowledge placated her suspicions for the time being. Targaryen was out there, somewhere, on his own adventure. Cheri wasn’t really on his mind.

“Miss him?” Cheri bit back a harsh bark of laughter. “The news is that my father has abandoned his post as Guardian of Taiga.” She tilted her head quickly toward Obscene, murmuring the news in concerned, breathy words. “I miss him more.” She said, making her priorities crystal clear.

“If Targaryen were in Hyaline - assuming that the Kingdom is as dangerous as you’re implying,” Cheri humored the Fae Prince, “then I certainly wouldn’t go there without more information. Not alone, at least.” Cheri looked back out at the Meadow. With night approaching, some of the banded horses had begun to move off along the various trails, their disjointed whinnying for foals and other herd members filling the dusky air.

“What about Gale?” Cheri was curious to know, speaking up after a moment. She could hear the deadly edge in Obscene’s tone, liking the way it made her spine straighten. Later on when the situation felt a little less serious, she would really enjoy testing those boundaries. “Why should I avoid him?”
