    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

From above, the wicked shall receive their just reward

Kronk was excitedly waiting for orders. While he always enjoyed carrying out orders, he couldn’t deny that he enjoyed the anticipation of waiting for them as well. It was a slightly foolish indulgence, the excited fluttering of adventure to come, and he rarely allowed himself to give into it. But, occasionally, he couldn’t help it. The stout stallion shook his head at himself. Were you truly doing your duty if you enjoyed it this much? If truth be told, Kronk wasn’t sure. He had always imagined duty would be onerous and difficult, something you did despite the struggle. He was just having fun. There was a slight chance he was doing something wrong.

He heard the stallion approach before he said anything. Kronk hurried to greet the approaching man, then stopped short. My, he looked…sleepy. The enthusiastic greeting died on his tongue. Certainly, Kronk's enthusiasm would do nothing but exhaust his greeter? He tried to rein it in a little.

“Thank you Ledger, I’m certainly glad to be here.” He paused, and wondered if perhaps he could wait to explain his purpose after Ledger had a nap. Yet, suggesting so seemed abominably rude.

“I’m Kronk, and I’ve come to join your ranks, if you’ll have me.” Kronk wasn’t exactly sure how these matters usually unfolded. He opened his mouth to explain that he had been invited here, that he wasn’t a hapless wanderer, when the lady herself approached. Kronk couldn’t help but beam at her greeting. It made him feel very welcome indeed. While he was more than thrilled so simply have a purpose, he hoped he could come to feel at home here as well. Perhaps even find some brothers and sisters in arms.

“I did, thank you, Wichita. I’m very glad to do my part, whatever that maybe.” They both turned their attention to Ledger then, and Kronk was glad that she had asked after his good health so he didn’t have to make an awkward inquiry. Ledger certainly did look worse for wear.
