    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

Valoel definitely did not expect the mare to disappear and he snorts in surprise. Being blinded by the markings on his face was one thing but this was something else entirely. He very much takes the opportunity to feel sorry for himself and would have gotten in a very respectable wallow if she had not reappeared.

It was a strange habit to disappear. And he might’ve remarked as such if he wasn’t covered in drying mud – he had his own strange habits.

She is in the process of answering his question when she interrupts herself and then asks him if he was hurt. If it had been an attempt to change the subject, it very much worked. “Oh, no. It was on purpose, I’m fine.” Moving his head makes the dried mud pull at his skin and hair, inviting a frown to take over. “Itchy now that it’s drying but fine. I have this glowing on my face that makes it a little hard to see when the sun is also bright so I wanted to try out if coating them in mud would work.” Even saying it outloud, his explanation sounds perfectly reasonable. If a little rambly. But it’s a nice treat to get to talk to someone so he doesn’t try to grade himself on whether or not he’s doing a good job. That’s for later.

“I think it is, unless you’re a ghost and I’m just talking to myself.”
