    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

As does often happen, Nisos' eyes gaze over the bystanders of the Meadow. A mare and a foal graze peacefully to his right. His ears swivel and overhear a pair of young stallions chatting excitedly somewhere off behind him. Their competitive banter makes Nisos roll his eyes in general annoyance. But as his scanning continues, he notices a silver bay mare by the river to his left. She stepped through the tall grass gingerly. And closing her eyes, particles of sand began to swirl around and around. The buckskin colt turns his head toward the outskirts of the Meadow, looking for a sign of wind in the trees. However today the winds are calm and the boy is perplexed. What gift does this girl have? What magic can make the sands move like that? It happens slowly at first, but soon the grains of sand gather speed and intensity. More particles join and it becomes something with depth and volume - though at such a distance, Nisos cannot exactly tell what the mare is beginning to form.

    He needed to find out.

With a laugh and a hop, Nisos quickly approaches her - without a thought as to how she might react. He canters across the Meadow, long legs covering the ground quickly. And before a minute has passed the colt bursts through the tall grass on the bank of the river - directly beside the silver bay. "Well that's a neat trick. he stammers, attempting to cover up the winded way his voice sounds after the sprint across the Meadow. His eyes fall to the ground and see the shape of a creature - through "sea turtle" is not an animal he knows. "What is it? And how did you do that?" The first question is full of curiosity and wonder. Clearly, a shape made in the sand without using your hooves is an unnatural feat. But his tone falls slightly on his second question. Nisos was strangely jealous of those with magic that he himself did not possess. Perhaps it is his age - young boys often covet things they themselves do now own. Or maybe it is his family history - he comes from a long line of mythical creatures, yet he himself does not have anything to show off.
