    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    I haven't come to say I'm sorry
but I swear I'm on your side

He should be expecting to be approached. That is, after all, why he is in the Field. To find a new home.

Still, her approach draws his head up, ears back towards his skull, eyes darkened. A perpetual scowl. He sweeps his gaze from ear-tips to tail and back again, considering her words and her existence. Outwardly, she appears normal, but of course he knows that doesn’t matter in Beqanna. Outwardly, he appears normal as well. But he hasn’t been normal since the nightmares started. And even now, when his power is dormant, he can feel the heavy weight in his chest from the seal the Bellringer had entrusted to him. Even the fae didn’t relieve him of that burden. They still wanted their children to live, after all, and releasing any of the four seals of apocalypse would have been counter-productive towards that end.

On more than one occasion, he’s wondered what happens to the seal when he dies. Will Conquest be released, or dragged into death with him?

“Can you turn back time?” he responds to her question, tilting his head and waiting a second before answering his own question, voice dripping in disdain. “No, I didn’t think so. So you can’t really help me with my problems.” Another scowl – he doesn’t fail to notice that she is flirting, at least a little, and that she’d technically offered to help. He knows he should feel bad for snapping back at her, but guilt just makes him grumpier. “I guess you already know why I’m here. Why anyone comes to this godforsaken Field. What land have you come to parade before me as a paradise waiting for people like me to fill it?”

Not that it matters. She’s not going to name any damn place he recognizes anyway.
