Bound for trouble from the start
I've been walking through this old world in the dark
It will never feel like the Gates. He knows this. Accepted it. Nothing would ever be like the Gates. Nothing would ever truly feel like home. If Magnus was still here, perhaps things would be different. No… It would be very different. Despite the turmoil of emotions he feels towards his father, it was still his father. Deep down, he still loved and idolized the man. However nothing would tear him away from Ellyse. Nothing. He had but a small taste of what things could be, what a normal life might be. A life of love, passion, desire, and hope. They would have to pry it away from his cold dead claws before he would give it up willingly. Nobody would stand between them, not even Magnus.
Despite the strong nature of his feelings towards her, he still gives her space. She had a child now… And Dahmer. An odd dynamic where he wasn’t sure where he fits in. It was best to just stay away, keep the beast within him calm. Anytime he looked at the black stallion, the bear roared and battered itself against the bars of his ribcage. It was safer for all if he kept his distance. She knew where to find him.
Now time passes so slowly as he longs for her. He has traveled most of Tephra trying to eat up hours, make the days pass faster. His thin figure looked less gaunt and more lean with the amount of walking and traveling he has done. He is still far too skeletal in appearance, unable to find his appetite. Unable to sleep like he had that first night with Ellyse. The hollowed socket of his missing eye deeper, blacker. Avoiding the volcano as he has become accustomed to, he stands hock deep in the surf as the ocean crawls up the sands to meet him. The only solace he can find that keeps himself and the bear comfortable amongst the humidity.
A call sounds out behind him, a single ear swivels back to catch it as the corners of his lips tug downward into a small frown. He hesitates for a moment then leaves the comforting coolness of the water. He spots a blood bay stallion standing stoically, searching for others. He assumes this is the owner of the call. Ledger had never been one to seek a fight. Wars were not for him. But that was before he had met Carnage, before he and the bear had been fused as one. There was a rage within him now, awakened after laying dormant for so long.
In the Gates he had always been more for diplomacy. He’s not sure if he fits that role now. So he will try his hand in something old and something new. While he was loathe to battle, if he could love this place as Ellyse does… He would defend it. More importantly, he would defend her. Always.
A single lock of flaxen hair falls over the empty socket and he turns his head slightly to gaze at Nymph with his good eye, hazel brown flecked with gold. Much like his father’s. ”Hello.” His voice rough as gravel, realizing he had not spoken in days. ”I’m Ledger. I use to be a Diplomat of Heaven’s Gates in my time but I will admit I know nothing of these new lands.” He pauses, the bear shifts in his stomach but remains quiet. ”Use me as you will.” He finally ends, solemness spreading along his facial features. Perhaps with a purpose, he wouldn’t miss her so much.
