    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

    "But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    [private]  Aten;
    #4
    So Aten's judgment was right; Ruan had been gone as of recently too. He knew that the leader was often not gone from Taiga for incredibly long periods of time, and when he was, he often put Jinju and Circinae in charge of supervising the residents and the kingdom to watch for signs of trouble. Aten was always nearby to help of course too, but the golden stallion had been in Nerine for some time prior to Ruan's return to Taiga, as he stated.

    Was it this correlation of both Aten's and Ruan's departure that caused this change in the wind? Aten didn't have any position of power here, and he didn't think of himself as intimidating like other stallions with larger physiques or special gifts would. Perhaps whoever had come to Taiga during his departure had seen it as a prime opportunity, with the largely built golden stallion and Ruan gone, but Aten figured it had more to do with the now-gray stallion than himself.

    Ruan seemed a bit absorbed in his own thoughts. Aten took his time to do some feeling of his own. The golden stallion stepped a bit closer to the trees, closing his eyes, tilting his head up, and putting his ears forward as he tuned everything else out and listened to the whispers of the forest. Though Aten had no gifts, he was often told by his dam he was just good at picking up on odd feelings in the environment around him. Aten had spent enough time in the Taiga to know when the trees' whispers were quieter than normal, and, as he took in a breath and smelled the changes on the wind, the forest was far too quiet for his own liking.

    The trees were a part of Taiga, and would not cease to exist unless the entire region disappeared into the ocean like Pangea had so long ago. But it seems they were troubled by something; whoever had come to the Taiga had greatly upset the forest, and Aten did not like it.

    Aten was drawn back from his thoughts when Ruan spoke up, assigning the golden stallion with the task of finding Circinae while the gray one himself went to look for Jinju. Understanding the importance of this matter, since the mare might have more information on what happened while the stallions were away, Aten nodded to the gray stallion and turned, preparing to head in the direction of the coastline. He knew Circinae had a hideaway there, but had purposefully not told her that he knew, nor any horse else for that matter; they just didn't need to know.

    Before Aten could make his way, Ruan spoke up again, inquiring about Aten's time in Nerine for the gladiator fight. He noticed the smile on his leader's lips as he inquired, and Aten found himself giving a small corner smile as well as he replied.

    "It is good to be home; the gladiator fight afforded me a lot of knowledge, but I did miss Taiga while I was away," he told the gray. "Unfortunately though, I did not have time to speak with Nayl," he said with disappointment, having picked up on the weight in Ruan's question. "After the fight was over, I did spent time in Nerine to try and speak with her, but no one was willing to reveal her whereabouts and I was unsuccessful in finding her on my own. If you would have it, I will return to Nerine after we find out from Circinae and Jinju what has changed on the winds here in Taiga, so that I can try and speak to Nayl again as you asked of me."
