    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

Ivar doesn't miss the defensive position of the other stallion's onyx horns, but he eyes them with no more concern than he gives to the jagged and useless teeth of the great whites. They are too close to the water for Ivar to feel even mildly threatened, and most of his attention is fixed on the lavender and white mare beside them. He does not miss the way she looks ashamed or that she brings up his own absence as well, but he is momentarily distracted by the tell-tale broadness of her barrel.

For the briefest moment he suspects the chestnut stallion and is prepared to bring horseflesh back to Isobell and Lothbrok rather than fish, but Kylin's explanation of the Brotherhood ends with a question for Takei. Surely she'd know that answer already if he were the father of her child, and Ivar finds that his inexplicable fury has no target.

It is an uncomfortable sensation, but he finds that pressing his muzzle to the smooth slope of Kylin's pied neck is soothing, and he draws her nearer to feel the warmth of her shoulder against his own. 'Mine', his body language says, even as he says aloud: "The Brotherhood? I heard they preferred the cold; Ischia seems a bit of a deviation."

Stories of the Bachelor kingdom were always located in the Tundra, one of the kingdoms that had been lost beneath the sea in the Reckoning long before Ivar's birth.
