    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

She was irritated. At him, most likely. Maybe he'd taken longer to visit than he'd meant to, but he'd had good reasons. Raul, for one. For two, he still wasn't certain she was safe around him, even with the practice Castile had set on him. The drills weren't useless. He was already feeling more confident in his abilities, more sure of his power. Still, it was like his sire had mentioned. High emotions created a loss of control, and he definitely felt things when Venus was near.

A half smile played the corner of his mouth, head bobbing agreeably as she began things politely. "I've been well enough. Patching things up with the old man, learning some new tricks." He left it at that, not wanting to get into the heartache he felt over the loss of his twin. Those were feelings that really would break his control if he gave into them. Stepping closer, his grin broadened with the awareness that he'd grown taller than her since they last met.

"It's been much longer than I'd hoped it would be. I can only ask you forgive me for that. Have you been well?" His face dipped lower as he spoke, muzzle brushing against hers lightly in greeting. Perhaps he lingered a bit longer than was strictly necessary. It had been rather a long time, after all. And if she was going to stand on manners, well, two could play at that game.

Eyes glinting with unspoken things, he stepped back to view her more fully. As much as he'd matured over the last few seasons, she had flourished. Shining like daffodils in spring, he looked for softening in her expression. Some hint that she would be open to what he wanted to suggest. The paper white curtain of his tail switched behind him, and for a moment he considered pushing it to shift into his dragon tail. Castile had said to practice, hadn't he?

Something held him back from it. Some small sense of self preservation. This was a delicate meeting. He could be delicate, probably. Tact had always been more of Raul's thing, but what the hell. No time like the present to learn
