    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

Say You'll Never Let Me Go -[Warlight]

He'd caught her scent again. She'd taken off in a questing way, intent on her direction. It had led them back toward Pangea and for a bit he was fearful that she meant for them to drive back into that hellhole. There was no small relief when their path turned north once more, and into a land he didn't know. It was a clear path, if only to the painted girl. It wasn't so much to him, though he kept close anyway.

There was so much risk anymore, in wandering alone. Those who had simmered in the background of Beqanna before now saw the opportunity to act without consequences. In the chaos, who would stop them? It was safer by far to travel together, and Raul found that for all that had occurred, Warlight was a good traveling companion. She was stubborn and steadfast and braver than he'd guessed. He could guess pretty well at what played through her head at night, and lent her his presence when it was wanted. Heaven knew it helped him, not being alone.

Still, he didn't hold her close. On days like today if she vanished, he tried not to worry. Tried. There was clearly something eating at her, literally. Illness marked her in a cough and lethargy and specks of blood. If she fell and didn't get back up... he had to be there. Her scent wasn't difficult to follow, so he did and was glad of it. She lay on the ground, and he couldn't tell if her ribs were moving. Even less reassuringly was the verdant horned horse leaning over her form, far too close for comfort.

His gait picked up at the sight. Cantering close, he wanted to scream, to tell this intruder to step away! Had he hurt her? Knocked her to thur ground? He charged down, stopping with his chest almost touching the other male, ears laid against his skull threateningly. This idiot better have a good explanation, and Warlight had better be okay.
