    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

The feeling of intrigue only deepens as he listens to the mare, a distraction from his usual leaden lifestyle.
She brings a new type of fascination with her as she speaks, the white stallion savouring her every word, a relaxing victory for his own need to socialise, her whisper silently driven toward them as the air cools, the moon slowly beginning to rise, casting a sharp light that beamed down on the pair.
She assures him that she will not leave him, Ruinam's head turning to face the mare with an inquisitive look, a rather bold statement he had never heard anyone say, a sweet symphony arriving at his ears, a smile spreading to his pink lips as he speaks in return "I'm glad" his words are hushed but his tone rises with significance as the mare continues to speak, the ivory stallion's head turning back toward the vast expanse of dimly lit forest.

Knowing that he was next to someone who wouldn't abandon him made the stallion feel safe and secure, his fox friend swooping her inbetween the pair in search of prey, his small stomach grumbling thunderously.
It had been a while since Ruinam had had proper company, the only beings he had met in the past months were those of Sylvian origin, no one outside seemed to invite him to converse, or even note of his presence, which was mainly why he focused on becoming the bystander. Watching life unfold around him as he stepped aside, his own being resorting to finding peace, find balance in the earth that he could follow, an impossible task.

Shortly after her declaration of staying with the stallion the mare begins to speak of her own ambitions and fears. Ruinam turns to face her as she speaks, his eyes following her lips as they moved in speech, his mind following as his fox yipped in the distance, announcing his catch, the smell of blood quickly entering the scene. Ruinam didn't pay particular attention to it, he was more focused on listening to the mare as she spoke of her aspirations and her fears.
She speaks of creating a name for herself, the resonating silence within him breaking loose as she makes a mention of it, for a while Ruinam meant nothing to him, just a word that he could be identified by if need be, but over the years the stallion began to make his name worth saying, something he could understand as the mare spoke.

The stallion nods as she speaks of her fear, something the stallion could understand in some aspects "Failure can only overtake you if you allow it." he looks back out toward the lake as the moon raises the light around them "When you fall, you still have the option to stand back up, even if that you must crawl toward your goal" he smiles, a rather generic old and whiny thing to say at the time, but he felt like it made sense to say out loud right now, since she had assured him, he could return the favour, his loyalty toward another always a priority for him "Plus, you can count on me if you need me, Valdis" he smiles as he turns back toward the mare, his head tilted as he keeps his eyes closed for a moment, relaxing in the brief silence of it all as it overcame them both.

Nothing could overpower the promise of loyalty, the only thing that is able to break bonds between chains is dishonesty itself. After all, where dishonesty falls, things tend to burn.
