    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

Ever since she left the Isle, she has continued to wander, avoiding an encounter with her persistent younger brother. She didn’t particularly care to see the look in his kind brown eyes when he discovered what she had decided to do with her daughter – or rather, what she had decided not to do, which was to raise her as a daughter at all. She and Woolf had agreed it was for the best, but Leander wouldn’t understand. He was too soft and kind and warm for the woman that she was now – a woman of ice and frost and winter.

A woman who had little desire and less use for the things of this world that were soft and kind and warm.

A raucous clamor of birdcall in the dense canopies above draws her glowing blue gaze. She exhales a cloud of cold breath from slender nostrils before she moves toward whatever had caused such an upset. Her eyes are hooded as she comes upon the large stallion, her delicate frame much smaller than his, though hers is covered in a layer of ice that armors her.

Snowfall twists strangely down from the trees, catching wetly against bright green leaves and dusting the forest floor. “Hello,” she says in a voice that is whisper-soft – a voice that might deceive someone into believing the person to whom it belonged was as small and fragile as it sounded. Yet believing such things would be that person’s first mistake.
