cold in the violence after the war
hope is a fire to keep us warm
As always, Dagen is so quick to pick up on her moods, just as she is to his. Perhaps it’s not how everybody works, but it is how they work. And she wouldn’t trade it for the world.
His chuckle makes her grin, and she tosses her head as he nips sharply at her jaw before taking off. Her head lashes out as she tries to take her own nip at her his retreating haunch, but he’s too quick, slipping from her grasp as he rushes towards the ocean. She doesn’t even think as she barrels after him, feet digging into the soft sand, allowing the wind to whip every thought and worry from her mind.
There is something so exhilarating in feeling the blood rush hotly through her veins, the burn of muscles as she forces them to work, the deep draws of salty air as she breathes deeply with each long stride. It’s freeing, in a way, to push her body into work so that her mind can set aside its worries.
As they reach the ocean, she skids to a halt, sand spraying around her as a bright peal of laughter escapes her lips. She hadn’t realized how much she’d needed such a release. Slamming rather heavily into Dagen, she bites his shoulder hard, her eyes bright with playful mischief even as she rebukes him for his earlier teasing.
She blinks when he straightens, his wings pressing close to his sides, gaze going to something in the distance. She turns, eyes following his until they land on two girls, perhaps a little older than they are, coming up the beach towards them. Dagen, now so contained, moves towards them, but Brazen pushes past him, eyes bright and curious, ears sharply forward as she steps into a trot.
“Hi!” she shouts, still a distance from them, though each step closes that gap. She slides to a halt once she reaches them, neck arched as she tilts her head curiously, a smile curling her lips. “You seem familiar.” she announces rather baldly. “Who’re you?” She grins rather precociously at them before recalling herself. “I’m Brazen, by the way!” She gestures briefly at her brother then. “And this is Dagen.”
