    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

“Eirrra!” The oh so familiar voice rings out across the ice, and Eira’s face splits in a grin as she raises her head to look for the source. Oh, and there he is! Well, more like there they are - the blizzard clears somewhat, and Eira can see both Eira and little Rowling in the throes of creating what appears to be a giant ice palace. Typical.

Eira can’t help but giggle as she turns to look down at the tiny filly at her side. “There they are Taiga, lets go meet them!” Gingerly, they make their way across the ice, Eira stopping every once in a while to ensure that Taiga’s wobbly new legs are finding safe footing.

They walk until they are only a few feet away, at which point Eira stops and lets out a low nicker at her silly mate. “Your fort is lovely dear, but there’s someone here I would like you to meet.” She leans down to nuzzle at Taiga, before giving the girl a gentle push towards Weir. “Darling, this is Taiga. Taiga, this is your Dad.” Taiga for her part stumbles forward, then starts snuffling at the roan stallion with great interest. “Da?” The the little filly hiccups, and promptly turns into a snowman. Eira’s head cocks to the side, staring at tiny carrot-adorned snowman sitting where her daughter had been. “Well that’s new.” But not entirely surprising, considering her parents. “Sweetie can you change back?” The snowman begins to shake, and then POP, a little chestnut filly stands in its place.

“That’s … interesting.” Eira’s heard turns to see that Lumi has managed to find them. She frowns momentarily at her older daughter as the girl peers in at little Taiga. She hadn’t failed to notice the faintest hint of jealously in Lumi’s voice. Of all their little family here in the Tundra, Lumi is the only one to have not inherited an ability from her gifted parents. And while Lumi is normally good at hiding it, Eira knows it rankles the girl some.

She doesn’t have time to dwell on the matter however, as the sound of approaching hooves distracts her. “Newton!” She quickly steps forward to nuzzle her eldest with a wide smile, before stepping back to let the others greet him. As Taiga and Lumi step forward to whuffle quiet greetings at their brother, Eira finally notices the young blue and black stallion behind him. She quickly notices the warmth of feeling in the stallion’s eyes as he glances at her son, and she manages to put two and two together by the time Newton speaks up and announces the fellow as his boyfriend. “Welcome to the family Sahm!” She bobs her head in greeting, and her brown eyes slip from the stallion back her son … and down to a distinct swelling in his sides. She’s seen that before … in Weir. Like father like son ….

“Are congratulations in order?” The thought of a grandchild makes her beam with enthusiasm. She just hopes the whole process won’t be as hard on him as it had been on Weir.
