    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

“What have I become, my sweetest friend?
Everyone I know goes away in the end."

    Faintly, a dry leaf crumples.

A delicate ear swivels to the side, her somehow still-lovely face swinging in the direction of the sound, a fruitless action but one born of habit. Years of being without sight had heightened her other senses, and there was little that got past her. The breezes changes, and the scent that enters her nose brings a knowing smile to her face. Immortality had kept her relatively ageless, but the very act of smiling - a true, genuine smile - seemed to melt the years away. "Ashley," his name is a murmur on her tongue, the taste of it so sweet and familiar. She cannot recall the last time she ran into an old friend, or even an old enemy. Everyone that she had ever held dear had long since vanished.

She does not hesitate to close the space between them, and without even waiting to gauge his response she presses her small body against his, her pale white lips finding a spot to brush sweetly against his shoulder. "Do we dare even count the years since we last spoke?" A quiet laugh breathes between her lips, shaking her head and stepping back. Without even realizing it, she had missed him. He had been one of her only allies when she first was placed as Queen of the Dale, a position that had been thrust upon her by Carnage. He had gifted her with infrared vision when she lost her eyes. He had become an integral part of her past, and honestly she can hardly believe he's here. "You're still here, though. Why?" She asks, because it is a question she constantly asks herself. Why is she still here, when everything is gone?
